So get this warriors... i finally entered the digital age! It may sound strange to you, but I've never owned a mobile phone before. As a christmas present from an affiliate manager who is fond of me, I just received a LG GT540 (android).

Now that I own this, Ive started to think about smartphone marketing but realise Im a couple of years late to the game. Warriors, do you have some suggested reading to get the brain juices flowing? Are there app affiliate companies? And if so, how do they track?

I also have my sites on an iPad, so any relevant reading there to would be appreciated.

Written on my christmas present (with only a few corrections)

Your not late. The apps to spread your links still all have not been developed, and the techniques are not even mastered yet. There is a small group out there concentrating on this area and making money. Not even 50% of the people in the U.S. even have a cell phone yet. A viral app, is priceless. Down the road I believe apps on phones are the new IM'ers tool of choice.

Your data is quite a few years old. Now more than 93% of US housholds have at least one cell phone, and most of the sales are in upgrades or additional phones. But, you are right in that apps on phones are the IM'ers new tool of choice, however, it's right now. This market is hungry right now for new products and services. I am among the "small group out there concentrating on this area and making money".

Most of the major cell phone companies and service providers have affiliate programs, and there are ancillary programs as well such as are found on Clickbank, Shareasale, and CJ to name a few.

Yeah I was kind of shocked when I saw 50%. Considering the ease of the iPhone I think that number would have been quite outdated. Going to look into some ppc options for apps and such, just poke my head around, spend a few g's and hopefully come out looking wiser for it.

Mobile Marketing is still in infancy and has yet to grab hold of the entire market worldwide so this is a great opportunity for you and everyone else.

I can recommend a few good read from MM experts like Kim Dushinski and others. In fact I just seen a great video at SingleMobile.com about mobile media.

at the moment what people in the UK are doing is either asking for mobile numbers when capturing details on a lead capture page or if you're buying leads buy ones with mobile numbers too.

Send them regular texts about any updates

You're not late at all, as the market penetration for smartphones (with operating systems, decent web browsers and enough horsepower to run powerful apps) is just starting to reach critical mass in the US, and probably elsewhere too.

So if I were you, I'd start familiarizing myself with the mobile CPA networks and also start getting a feel for the popular apps in the Android and iPhone marketplace. Offermobi is one of the biggest networks focused on the mobile space, and don't overlook Sponsormob and Mobpartner.

I recently came across Mobile Monopoly and was able to access the program for free. It was a real eye opener. I have only tapped the surface of mobile marketing, but it is definitely an intiguing platform moving forward.

Mobile marketing is just beginning. You should see some of the apps coming out in 2011 that will benefit mobile marketers. Crazy amazing stuff. I'll be posting a WSO about one of them in the next week. There's LOTS to be made.

Also, I doubt the stat up top that said 93% of households own a phone. Its lower without a doubt, and many are giving up their phones because of the associated costs (this downturn will fix itself in due time). Regardless, the market is right for those who know how to use it.

      Here's the data:
U.S. Wireless Quick Facts- 93% of households own a phone

Your info is way outdated. There are currently 292.8 million wireless subscribers in the US. Mobile marketing is actually booming right now as I said. Apps and .mobi sites are flooding the market now. I've been selling in this market for 6 years, and recently the smartphones have been selling like never before all over. We sell smartphones (all brands), apps, and our own branded carrier service aggregated from the big boys. Unlimited nationwide talk, text, and web for $79.95 per month. (Affiliates pay $69.95/month and no one can beat our low rates!) We also offer sim cards to replace those expensive iPhone plans. And yes, I am looking for sales reps.

Since I still have a dinosaur cell phone (no smart phone) I'm rather mobi challenged to say the least so I'm probably not the best choice to be a sales rep for this kind of stuff. Still I've done pretty well as an affiliate in the past for other products so I wouldn't mind taking a look at any information you may have that outlines your sales rep offer.

Paula, 93% penetration does not reflect the smart phone market, which is really what this thread is about. The market penetration could be 100%, but if 70% of that is in non-smartphones, then app-marketing doesn't really apply. But still, its a HUGE market that makes my knees weak and my Android quiver with excitement. (awkward statement).

      Miles,

I stand corrected. The information I was referring to was the statement that

Not even 50% of the people in the U.S. even have a cell phone yet.
Nearly everyone has a cell phone of some kind, and I want to emphasis that the SMS/texting, mobi sites and apps market is huge and hungry. As is the smartphone upgrade market, voice texting technology, and more affordable service plans for all!

The Market Is Just Really Begining because of the new Ipad and the First TV App just came out so you defenetly got in the right time if you are ready I would suggest in either reading up on the topics such as O'reilly books one is called "Building Android Apps"
also i recommend the book by google itself called something round "Android Application Development".

Also do you research on Web apps and Native.

Think About it what does everyone leave the house with there keys and "Cell Phone".

Care to elaborate bit more on this app in question?

I read almost all email marketing and information shared by twitter followers on my iPhone. It is amazing how many of my friend and colleagues do the same and there is really a need for even websites to be created to become more mobile-friendly. I think mobile marketing is a step in the right direction.
