FCC Trying To Impose Internet Traffic Rules - How Will This Affect Us?

Did a quick search on the forums and didn't see anything related posted about this. I hope it's not a re-post.

How do you feel about this "net neutrality rules" thing the FCC is trying to pass? UPDATE 1-Approval of Internet traffic rules likely-analysts | Reuters

What is your interpretation of it and how do you think it will affect us as Internet Marketers?

Internet Marketing will probably be dead in 3-4 years to be honest.

I feel like IM will evolve just like everything else. We will still be making money, some way some how.

Most likely. Sorry, black & white thinking hits me sometimes. Thing is IM is already so saturated. Look around on the web

facebook, twitter, article directories, yahoo answers, youtube, etc.

Hey keep thinking that way! I think you are exactly right! (NOT) But that's ok...then I guess it's not worth building or having an online business after all! Geez what was I thinking?

It would be nice if it gets knocked down, but if it goes through, I think it will only negatively affect high bandwidth websites like YouTube.

This is basically "Net Neutrality". Congress couldn't pass legislation so they are turning to the regulators (FCC) to try and accomplish the same thing.

Basically, they want ISP's to treat all traffic as equal. They are concerned that certain traffic will be given priority.

ISPs, on the other hand, want to be able to manage their resources. So in other words, they want the ability to slow speeds on Torrent sites in order to let VOIP calls go through. They also would allow companies to pay if they use more resources and have preferred access (no slowing).

Personally, I'm NOT in favor of net neutrality (gov't intervention). It will just result in higher broad band prices for everyone. I'd much prefer they just leave the ISP's to manage their own network and allow them to charge websites more that use more resources.

Well, it's more government, so the results can only be positive.

IM's not going to die, but even if it did...

You should be able to adapt your skills through different marketing mediums.

How can IM die if it's already dead? Isn't that what everyone's saying already? haha

IM's dead and it's alive at the same time, so it must be a zombie?

Too much red tape here between politics and business

Plus what levels are we talking about here...I have sites getting 5000 to 6000 visitors a day, this is still very small compared to many bigger sites. So i would not bother losing sleep.

    Cheers,
    Mukul
