Change Ezine article titles?

I have seen time and time again on this forum that I can take content that I have written for my blog and submit it to Ezine without being penalized for duplicate content. So, I have done that and my first two articles are live. Yay!

My question is, should I change the titles of the articles that I submit to Ezine so that they have my keywords in them or should I keep them the same. So basically, other than the title, the rest of the content will be an exact duplicate of what is on my blog?

I just don't want every title on my blog to have my keywords in them, but I can see how this might be useful for Ezine.

Do you think that it creates confusion around me being the author of both if one has a different title?

Thank you

When you submit your article to Ezine it is helpful to have the keyword you're targeting in the title.

It doesn't matter to EZA what you do and thanks for confirming the duplicant content myth is indeed a myth.

      Quite simply. No.

          My pleasure.

The main thing is they are indexed on your site first. Then submit it to EZA the same or change whatever you like. It simply doesn't matter.

          Good luck.

I noticed that many of the articles which were not getting enough traffic at ezinearticles got many clicks when I changed their titles when I submitted them to various other websites. Therefore, it is a wise decision to test different titles for the same article.

At your blog your titles can be simpler and shorter, while the articles you submit to ezinearticles and other article directories must be the longest possible, so that they may be very appealing, and so that you may have the chance to use many keywords in the title. However, you cannot surpass the 100 characters limit for the title when you submit an article to ezineartices. Don't exaggerate. Be also aware that you cannot change your titles at EA after submitting them. Be very careful so that you may find the best title for your article before its submission. You can change your titles in other article directories and websites if you are not happy with the results at EA.

If you have the time and you submit your articles to many article directories it's a good idea to test different titles each time. You can focus on other aspects of your article, depending on the title you'll give. Many times you'll see that your new title will help you attract more visitors for the same article because there are more people interested on the second aspect you decided to emphasize in your new title.

For ex. your first title is 'How to make money through email marketing'. Your second title for the same article could be 'How to avoid making common mistakes on email marketing'.

    Be creative.

I can't resist playing devil's advocate in this conversation and mentioning that arguably you "should" keep them the same, because they ought already to have the major keyword at the start of the title when originally published and indexed on your own blog/site anyway!

    Richard is right, of course.

Mine would be "Email Marketing - Then The Rest Of The Title", because I put the main keyword first. Chris Knight taught me this and he was right. I'm just saying.

Alexa, does that mean that all of the articles you write for Ezine would be preceded by Email Marketing - Then The Rest Of The Title? So conceivably you could have 100plus articles all starting with Email Marketing?

Thank you all for your help.

        Hi RunningBear

I'm certain that is what she means. Put the keyword you are targetting first. I would personally do as she recommends with the blog posts to but it's up to you.

She very much knows her stuff when it comes to article marketing, if she says put it at the start I'd put it at the start. I can't see why EZA would have a problem with this though I'd take it from her first. Having said that, if you had 100 articles on "email marketing" it's completely relevant to have "email marketing" at the start of the title.

Well, EZA certainly have no problems with it - they recommend that you do this in their "EZA Author Tips" (or whatever it's called) email series, and elsewhere.

Obviously though (to RunningBear), you're probably going to want to branch out and target more than one single keyword in your article titles eventually, but there's no issue in writing and submiting multiple articles targetting the same keywords. After all, a topic such as "email marketing" is very broad and encompassing of many sub-topics, and as such could be covered from a number of different angles ... as can even many more narrowly-focused, longer-tail keyword phrases.

I agree completely I just mean't theoretically as the OP was speaking, if he did write 100 articles all targetting that one keyword phrase, then the keyword will always be at the front of the title. I think the OP was worried EZA wanted some variation.

What you're saying though is spot on, don't just target the phrase "email marketing" find other keywords that get traffic to target. Apologies RunningBear if I didn't make that point clear.

              Here is what I do:

I write a new unique article and submit it to one of the various directories I use.

After it is approved, I post it to my blog with the same title, same keywords, everything.

Within a day or so, the article on both the article directory and my blog are indexed and I figure I get two chances to get the same visitor because the same search will return both results.

Works like a charm for me.

Sorry: I've only just noticed your question now.

Yes, I could have (in this example) a number of articles there all starting with the words "Email Marketing" (not 100, because I'd work my way round a few other main keywords and be using them as the keyword for some of the articles instead). But I could easily have "Email Marketing - Some Aspect Of It" and "Email Marketing - Another Aspect Of It" and "Email Marketing - Here's An Aspect Of It You've Never Heard Of" and "Email Marketing - Who Needs It Anyway?"and "Email Marketing - What Does It Have To Do With Cauliflower Soup?" and so on.

Hmmm... I like it...but have one concern

I have a personal development blog that covers a variety of topics. So instead of different aspects of one topic, I would be using my keywords in completely different and sometimes unrelated topics.

Let's say my keywords were "How to Be Happy", my titles would look like:

How to Be Happy: Top 10 Ways to Staying Vibrant and Young
How to Be Happy: Are You Boldly Jumping into Your Life without Hesitation
How to Be Happy: What’s All the Buzz about Eating Raw
How to Be Happy: Fail Your Way to Success – A Lesson from Teenage Internet Entrepreneurs
How to Be Happy: Are You Making These Top 5 Resume Mistakes?

What do you think about this approach?

Does the colon make it look like all of the articles are a part of some larger group? Or does it look silly?

          Thanks again for the help.

I don't see a problem with it, if "How To Be Happy" is your primary keyword.

            Not to me.

Bear in mind that different article directories have their own policies regarding punctuation in titles. (I may be wrong, but at EZA, for example, I think the colon will automatically be replaced by a dash.)

I wirte a lot of articles and I submit a good many of them to EZA. I usually put my keyword phrase first in the title. Not always, someties it just makse more sense to do something else.

EZA will replace the colon with a dash, they will give you a little warning notice, nothing bad, just telling you that something needs to be changed.

When I write articles on my blogs, I ues AllinOne on the title tags, I use a version of the keyword phrase in the title on the post itself. This has never seemed to cause any problems and seems to help the search engines and readers know what that post of page is going to be about.

I know I'm responding to an old thread here, but I"m wondering is this info is still valid? I was told (or thought) that Ezine Articles would not publish an article unless they were the first to get it! So now I"m intrigued. I think I'll just go and test it now with something I spun before and see if they accept it. Wish me luck!

          This is totally wrong.

No where does EZA say you have to publish on their site first. This point has also been discussed millions of times here. In fact I think Buzzle is the only place that has this requirement.

EZA would like it first, and they will reject your article if it is too much like an articel they already have published on their own site. I suspect after reading about this issue a lot of times in a lot of places that these two ideas get mixed up.

It is your writing, make sure you get the credit for it first on your site.

Or you can uses EZA to get your page indexed, if that is what you want to do. Nothing wrong with that, it is just a differetn strategy. You put content on your website and link to it from and EZA article, could be the same one or a differetn one. That link in your resource box can help that page on yur site get spidered and indexed.

It takes a little more writing. But not too much.

Really? I regularly submit my articles to 10-50 directories a week including ezine with different author names and different emails but never had any problems. As far as I know ezine only rejects your article if they already have similar article in their directory.

They'll certainly reject it if - at the time of their editorial review - the same article has already been published under another name, and they may well suspend your account while you discuss it with them, too - as many Warriors have reported here, and as they explain clearly in their blog.

But they expressly invite, welcome and solicit articles which have already been published elsewhere under the same name.

Yes, your post surprised me a lot. I think maybe you've been "getting away with it" because you're submitting everywhere at the same time and by the time EZA reviews them they haven't yet been indexed anywhere else? But seriously, there are lots of posts here from Warriors who've had their EZA account suspended over this (only temporarily, and I understand there's typically no problem getting it re-activated when you explain the situation to EZA and convince them that you are, in fact, the author/rights owner of the material, but still a nuisance?).
