Can someone comment on how I implement these tips my friend gave me on getting blog traffic

I had a chat online to a friend the other day and they told me some things I should do to see traffic on my blog. He only mentioned these things briefly and he's a busy guy so didn't press him on the topic.

So could someone please expand on how I do each of the things he mentioned.

Here's what he said:

start a blog, have all the related niche blogs add you to their blog roll, write articles, ping them, bookmark them, ping the bookmarks, create an RSS feed out of the articles and the books marks, submit the rss feeds to agregators... and you'll start to see traffic.

Thanks.

You have 8 items here, some require more than a sentence or two to explain. I'll do my best here though:

    1)
    start a blog
This means you need to pick a niche, setup a blog (wordpress installation) on your own server and start blogging about your niche.

    2)
have all the related niche blogs add you to their blog roll
This isn't so easy, you need to be established and read before anyone is going to just add you to their blogroll. Basically this means that they think your blog is relevant to their blog and making a mention of you on their blog will help their own traffic and boost their SEO. Build up some relationships with other bloggers in your niche before you go around asking to be on their blogroll. And you'll want to add their blog to your blogroll of course. Consider doing this first (ask of course).

    3)
    write articles
Same as blogging, instead you write articles and post them to article directories like ezinearticles.com.

    4)
    ping them
Read this step by step guide to pinging on ehow. It's the same procedure for any published content online. How to Ping your Ehow Article | eHow.com

    5)
    bookmark them
Watch this youtube video, the guy explains how to bookmark to social media sites.
    6)
    ping the bookmarks
    See step 4 above.

    7)
create an RSS feed out of the articles and the books marks
You may find this ehow article helpful to explain the process. How to create a RSS FEED | eHow.com

    8)
submit the rss feeds to agregators
Here's an ezine article about the subject: How to Use the Best RSS Aggregators and Submission Software Effectively

    Hope that helps.

    Thanks, most helpful.

Will work through it step by step.

So you advise I do the other ones and build up my own traffic before I try doing the bookmarking thing to other blogs? Perhaps shift that to number 8 if I were using chronological order?

You will have more success getting into other bloggers blogrolls if you have an established blog with traffic and have started creating relationships with the blog owners.

One way to start getting backlinks today, and start the process of creating the relationships is to actually read their blogs consistently, post valuable comments, and put a link to your site in the comment area designed for the purpose. Just be forewarned, many bloggers will either delete the link, or may not approve your comments. Don't be offended when this happens, but keep moving along. (The more value you add in your comment, the more success you will have in getting them accepted.)

Oh ye I've seen that practice and found it pretty obvious and lame when I've read ppl's blog comments before.

Like people just go 'yea cool blog anyway check out mine at X'

Like you say I guess it's about adding valuable comments and not being too eager to get your plug in.

Adding to other suggestions I'd make some videos and comment on videos in your niche
