I Can't Believe The Nerve of Some People! What should I do?

I was doing a generic Google Search for one of my products just to see what was ranking lately for the search term.

I found an article that is on EZA, articlesbase, goarticles and many other high traffic directories. The article claims to review this (my) product but it is obvious that they never read a single word of it. But the part that ticks me off is that the article appears to be written by one of those spinners that produce content that doesn't flow well and sounds like total crap. I am dead-set against these pieces of trash, by the way!

But what REALLY gets under my skin is the fact that the product is about article marketing and writing!! Now, if people read this article which says that the product is so good, there is absolutely no chance...no way...no how...that they are going to purchase the product because the article that's promoting it is so crappy!!!!!!!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm having a hard time not taking this personally. Not only does it piss me off, it makes my product look like crap.

Should I leave it alone and move on or should I try to get it removed from the directories I find it in?

OUCH, the irony hurt me where I sit.

Is this a clickbank product? Any way to contacting the affiliate and explaining what the problem is?

Man, you need to move on right quick and be happy that you are getting free promotion, backlinks & traffic (as long as those articles link to your site that is...)

Think about it this way... the internet is global... many different language speaking people that might find your definition of 'crappy writing' could actually be good to them, then once they get to your offer and see good writing, they will think it's excellent.

Search engines don't care if the writing is crappy, as long as there are some links there, they will index them... thus giving you much desired search engine love...

Bottom line... be happy that someone is promoting your products for free. In the old world, you had to pay salespeople to do this for you.

I didn't think about that. But I wonder if I'll even get any click-throughs from it. It's pretty bad, dude.

Well, it's probably an affiliate, you could just remove the offender from your affiliate program.

I'd have to see it to decide for myself to decide whether or not to ban the user...

but I just had a thought that can turn something that pisses you off to some great opportunities...

look at it this way, do you have any before/after material within your marketing techniques?

First thing that came to mind was the macco car painting/bodywork commercials, where they show you a rust bucket, then after they do their magic, poof! here's a shiny new red sports car...

What do all health/fitness/diet ads show you? the before & after.

If your product deals with good writing skills, what better to use for a before, than a poorly written ad that promotes your product that teaches good writing??? Ohh.... the Irony!!!

anyways, the lesson I would learn from this if I were promoting a writing skills product... would be to show the before/after writing scenarios (which I haven't actually seen anywhere)

The answers you have been given above, are good ones, but as for myself, my first move would be to get in touch with Chris Knight at Ezine Articles and ask him how something like that recieved approval in the first place.

  • Not much you can do, maybe go out to dinner and watch a movie and ease up. People will always tick us off one way or another just to to a major pain online. I'd move on and not waste time. Find ways to get farther ahead.

You also must remember people online will flame you and your work, even if you spent a lifetime doing it. It's called being jealous, or maybe thwe competition wants to burn you so they can make sales, In my online selling experiance I have seen it all.
I wish you the best !!

    Hi Allen

Is there any way you can leave a comment after the article on all the directories? You might be able to redress the balance or you could make things worse though. A mini testimonial-type-comment.

Yes,a little comment could make it all right.
You might just need to give the person a simple little warning and maby he would stop.

    Hi Allen,

I think it's important for you to remember that people looking at any purchase look at the source if it's referred, so if they suck and they're saying your product sucks, then someone with common sense will say it's worth checking out!

Plus, the more successful and exposed to the media you become, the more you're going to get negative press. It doesn't matter how good you are, that's just human nature.

    Hang in there.

        use it in your marketing.

Link to it stating this is how NOT to write articles, this wwas writtien without the benefit of your product.
The fact it mentions your product can be given over to tongue in cheek marketing on your part (you are far too good a person to mention anyone elses product in such a poorly composed 'pre product initiatiated' article)

        Use it to your benefit.

I would just laugh it off and be grateful there are people promoting your product.

But I do understand why you'd be upset.

Thanks everyone. I've slept on it and I think I've calmed down a lot. I'll take your words to heart and, even if I don't use this for marketing, I'll always have a funny story to tell, I guess.

    Thanks again,

you think this experience is bad???

try waking up to see your product pirated and for sale on ebay at 50% off... or seeing your software on warez sites for free download...

I've been there plenty of times... and it's not fun at first, but after a while you see that it's actually a complement that your product is so good, people are willing to break the law to get it...

    it definitely makes you think...
