To Index or NoIndex,Follow or Nofollow

Ive read this at many places that Tag pages and category pages should be kept 'noindex' and 'nofollow' ... i dun really know why this should be done, they say it results in duplicacy of content but in my own experience by making them follow n index one of my sites is acquiring all top 3 results for many keywords, and the site is like ,earning $1800-1900 a month through adsense... and not only that, recently i received a message from adsense telling me that m UNDERMONITIZING my website and i should add more ad units and blah blah... and after few days i also got invitation for an Adsense Webinar... which means they've started to love my website...

What do you guys think ??

    Simply use Platinum SEO or another plugin or theme that inserts the canonical tag into your WordPress structure. This helps Google to select the most relevant duplicate page on your site while retaining search relevant keyword matches for tags and categories.

    hey bgmacaw... ive read many sensible replies from u in many other threads.. thanks for replying ... iam using platinum SEO n m pretty much happy with it... i havent touched my successful site but just disabled the noindex n nofollow on tag n categories on my 1 month old site.. i guess the canonical option is checked already

    yaa coolaromas, m really happy n i really thank god for blessing me with this ... that site is 1 yr old but ive actually started paying attention 2 it around 4 months back...

    as i mentioned m not even touching that established site.. m just too scared :p ... see guys that website has almost 2200 posts but has more than 300,000 pages indexed... hope ur getting what m trying to point here... ive just disabled the nofollow n noindex on my new website, i just hope it works out like my main site
