Best Way To Monetize Leaving Traffic?

I have nearly come to finishing the development and promotion of a bunch of sites, and am looking at really squeezing the most out of the traffic that I am getting.

I found this script:

ClickAdsPro | Monetize Your Lost Traffic

and although it seems a little outdated, it could be a great solution. Not sure about how it would affect SEO rankings, etc though, having a popup when people try to leave your site...

The only other idea I can think of for maximixing the responce from traffic is to use a list building popup script.

Anyone have any opinions on which one works best, if they work at all?

And what other ideas do you guys have for making the most out of traffic that is leaving?

  • That script you refered to doesn't seem very popular if you look at traffic going to the site. If you PM me I should be able to help you out.

And yes you are right, its getting on for 6 years old. If it was kept up to date it would show more recent stats.

I don't like visitors leaving my website. My main goal is to keep them on my web property as long as I can. Traffic ain't cheap, neither is the effort I invested in building my website, so if I lack something on my website and I want to put external link to something, I always reconsider and write a new article that explains similar thing, than interlink.

Offering value and creating thrust is really important, the longer someone stays on your site, more likely he's going to buy something.

There really is no one size fits all solution to exit traffic; as there could be multiple reasons why someone is leaving from the page in question. The page they're leaving from could create a whole different reason than the front page and so on.

Its best to factor in the various variables that would constitute the prospect leaving the site; and to then factor in those variables for each page of your site.

Some pages should incorporate an exit strategy... some shouldn't.

Then you'll want to factor in what type of exit strategy you want to incorporate and each page should have its own sub-personality and reason for implementing such a strategy.

The only thing that I would (humbly) suggest that be consistent across ALL pages is the actual app being used. The app that will allow you to incorporate ANY type of strategy...
    - opt-in form
    - HTML message
    - PHP script
    - video
    - audio
    - etc.

Then, even after you've gone through all that testing and tweaking you still need to TEST and ANALYZE RESULTS to see what's working and what's not.
