Need help with a Niche Domain name

I have been researching products to promote on amazon for a while, I got a very good Niche (product name e.g Toshiba laptops) which I like. Now, the product name.com is available but I'm worried about patent violation and I won't want my site to be seized after a while.

Do you think this patent of a thing is overrated and should go on and register the domain?

I'm thinking if for instance Toshiba is the name of the product then i should be able to register toshibalaptops.com with no problem since it's not toshiba.com

I need your Advice. Thanks

You should avoid registering domain names for commercial purposes that include famous trademarks.

Thank you for sharing this important advice with us. I have no hand fest knowledge of legal issues. But my gut feeling is that this is bad policy. First of all TODAY Toshiba lap tops are a bestseller, but who guarantees you that this will be so in two months from now? So why limit yourself to Toshiba? I suggest you use a domain name like cheap-deals.com or cheap-laptops.com.

Please do stay away from Toshiba and other brand names.

I'm not an attorney and I don't think you can afford one when the chips are down.

I'm just advising you as a fellow countryman.

    Happy weekend.

Are you using a blog, to promote amazon products? If so, then don't use brand name as domain. If you are promoting laptops, get something like toplaptops.com or laptopsonline.com. Something short and simple. Easy to remember.

When you are using permalinks, you will get your keyword in your domain anyway.

If you don't use a blog and are using simple website, then same there. Get domain as i said, but save your pages using your keywords.

You can have a page, blog post or article with a brand name...but not domain. Well, you can...but you can get into trouble.

    All the best

Do your keyword research and find a non trademark yet related term to be your domain name.

Trademarked names in your domain name can lead to troubles down the road and it's best to stay way from that.

    Good luck!

Never ever use a brand / trademark / copyrighted term in the domain. You can use it in the category or in the title of the post though.

Keep us posted...i guess anyone with a .org can get in the same situation with a .com then, huh? I have some .nets or .orgs of course because .com was taken...will they come after me even though the phrase isn't a trademark? Certainly hope not! They can be upset with me and threaten like these guys did to you, but is it really illegal to do? They could have purchased all the domains if it was really a big deal but they didn't and now are trying to scare off competitors...doesnt sound fair to me at all!

No they cannot, if the term is generic and open to all then you have every right to register and use it as you want.

If I saw Computers.org I certainly wouldn't hesitate to register it even though Computers.com is taken.

A generic term is when it is such in use that everyone uses it to describe their products, like aspirin or beans...even though it is a product name and Heinz uses it a lot anyone can use it. (the beans of course, not heinz)
