Criteria for Promoting an Affiliate Product

I have seen a few posts recently that talk about the criteria that marketers should use for choosing affiliate products to market to your list. For example, with ClickBank products, most of the recommendations are about gravity, etc.

I was also asked to endorse a few WSOs that discuss this topic, but refused.

To me, email marketing is a very personal way to market products. None of these posts or courses mention anything about actually using a product and liking it before pushing it on your list. There is no personal touch involved in picking products based on gravity, payouts, or upsells.

A good personal relationship is built on trust. Your email list members will trust you more if you share your experiences with a product before asking them to buy it.

If you are in it for the short term, then blast those fake reviews away. If you are in it for the long haul, then you better get your head out of your a** and start being open and honest with your list.

Just my two cents of the day.

Thank you for making this important point. How very true - I couldn't agree with you more. I was inspired by another thread here today to open an affiliate account with clickbank. I chose to promote a tutorial in a niche which I have expert knowledge in. Although I personally haven't had a chance yet to try this tutorial out, I feel confident in promoting it because it has to do with a subject I'm passionate about.

Happy Birthday to your daughter (My daughter Emily is 6 and it's such a lovely age)

I have only recently started promoting affiliate products, in the past it has always been my own product.

I've found that when I send an email out to my list that I've had a better return rather than any other form of marketing/advertising I have done.

I agree, it's because my list is loyal, they trust me if I promote something and I have taken the time to build a relationship with them.

However, if you don't have a list and have to rely on other marketing efforts then this clearly doesn't work, or doesn't straight away anyway!

    I completely agree, Brian.

Please excuse me for mentioning that this "criterion" certainly does feature on my own list of criteria for product selection as an affiliate.

To date I have not promoted anything to my list that I havent used myself and my list really appreciates that and I also make more sales because of it. In the future if I promote something I havent personally tested I will let them know up front.

It's a good way to make you stand out from the rest of the marketers that push 3 new Clickbank products a day to their lists but then again, these guys are doing great with it so it must work.

      Cheers

It's refreshing to see someone who values integrity, morals and principles over the buck so many of us are struggling to achieve. I don't think anyone no matter how desperate they are to learning how to make money online can disagree with you Brian. Nice post.

i just unsubscribed from 4 lists earlier this morning due to this same thing. the constant promotion of products they don't use and are over hyped "it takes 2 clicks to make $1 gazillion by tomorrow"

i'm slowly purging all this useless crap out of my inbox. it's part of the reason i sometimes get overwhelmed and stuck and i'm tired of it.
