Getting more email opt ins?

Hello, i have added 2 different email opt ins to my blog from wordpress, and i rarely get any opt ins with my traffic.
I bought a package from a user on this website and turned it into a wordpress site instead of a squeeze page and i was hoping the layout might increase opt ins but it hasnt..
I have the website located @ Free Starcraft 2 Strategy Guide any tips or suggestions you have to increase the opt ins? maybe location or something?

thanks alot,

Kevin

I don't know about anybody else, but I find the site confusing. I would say you need more of a squeeze page theme where it's a straight line from a to b. If, that is, the only thing you are offering on this site is the strategy guide. It looks like a blog but doesn't act like one. I'm expecting links to take me to content.

I will say I think the site looks cool.

Well I plan on releasing more guides, i bought his original copy of the guide package but i actually play this game and i'm working on 3 more individual class guides to give away for free as well.

I would prefer to keep it a blog over squeeze page if possible. Should i remove the opt in popup?

Sounds like a good idea. Ive been thinking about trying to make the blog post alot more flashy as well to fit in with the site better. Or would that be too much?

Would it be a bad idea to add a couple adsense banners to the blog? or does that scare traffic away as well?

Yes, you have all the benefits on top and they look really good, but perhaps you want to go into a little more detail in the post and specifically mention the opt in form on the left. Treat the text in the header as a logo, not a call to action.

You know your audience a lot better than I ever will ( I am far too old for this demographic) but I would lose the initial pop-up. It asks me to give out my e-mail before it tells me why I should. I find this very off-putting in this spammy age of ours.

Also the link at the bottom of the post is a live link to the guide. Did you intend this?

Yes I'm pretty new too all this, which im sure you can tell. Is there a better way to provide the guide?

Im working on your suggestions for the post and opt in form now..

Back to the adsense i mentioned is cpalead a better option? or should i avoid both and hope the clickbank product im promoting in the guide converts?

The typos are no help. 'freestarcraft 2 guide' instead of Free Starcraft 2 guide -makes you look like you don't really care... And if you don't care about the opt-in box, why would people think you're going to care about them?

Also, there is no benefits for opting in (atleast on your shadow box opt in) .. it said something like Please Enter your name and email for more guides.

    1) You sound desperate to get them to sign up you might as well say "please please sign up for my list...I'm so lonely"
    2) Like stated above, there's no benefits. Give people a reason to sign up. Tell them how these free guides are going to improve their game play and crush their online opponents.... something

      ^^^ This.

You need to sell them whatever the incentive is for the opt-in. And selling means stressing benefits.

You may also get more opting in if you change the entire colour-scheme and possibly the position of the opt-in on the page. I know nothing about this niche, though, so no promises!

Well I made some quick changes to try and represent what everyones saying. Currently working on a more indepth post to include on the blog post.

The guide now requires opt in to view so i'm trying to write up some text to get the opt ins.

Any chance someone has a good link to a blog I could look over for pointers?

It also seems like the rest of the site looks good and the blog post looks like crap. If i were to type up a full page on why they should opt in and read the guide should i make it in photoshop to blend in and add the opt in box at the bottom as a way to be forwarded to the guide?

is your site getting any traffic? If so where is it coming from? Maybe its the quality of (or lack their of) traffic...

But if you are getting traffic from whatever source, here are some tips:

Put the optin in the sidebar. And remove the other widgets. This will bring it above the fold and remove the anti-social proof elements that are currently there (1 post and 0 comments)

take the comments off the page and take the digg button off. these are both also anti social proof elements.

If you want comments, pay 20 people on mechanical turk to leave a comment for $5 so you have some social proof.

completely rewrite your offer. It sux (no offence). Its already been mentioned above.

Dont talk about 'what it is' talk about the 'benefits'

Something like the below would be much more powerful than what yo have:

Sign up and get my FREE report that will having you crushing your friends in every game mode by Tomorrow!! Sign up now and stop getting your ass kicked! Its FREE and you will be AWESOME after reading it. DO IT NOW.

Then have a big red arrow pointing to the sign up box.

    my 2 cents

No offense taken It does suck, I appreciate all the advice guys. I'm trying to write up the best details using your suggestions I can for the page. Traffic is minimal but ill focus more on that once I finish the changes your all suggesting.

I have googled removing the sidebar completely doesn't seem like its really a option. I think the page would be so much more effective centered with the header as well and would give me alot more room for my "sales pitch"

As far as paying for comments goes, couldn't i just register a ton of users myself and make comments? Or are the comments that are paid helpful for sales based on how they word it?
