Got a domain, how do I set it up with byethost?

Complete tosh.

I have sites ranking #1, page #1 for main keywords...all on Byethost (paid hosting). Have done for ages.

Also I have some blogs on the free Byethost servers also ranking high, so that works too.

So, Adie, how do you explain that?

To answer the OP. First set your new domain nameservers to those provided by Byethost (do this in your domain name account wherever you registered and paid for them)

Then, head over to your Byethost CPanel and choose 'Add-on domain'. Set up the domain name there...just follow the easy instructions.

Then delve into CPanel again and go to Fantastico installer. Follow the instructions to install the Wordpress platform on your domain name.

Wait for a while for the DNS to resolve around the world and you are good to go.

Just FYI, blogs & sites hosted on Byethost FREE network have absolutely no problem in getting indexed in Google. In your case, Google does not index every site & blog OR it may take sometime before it gets indexed.

Bythost servers are NOT blocked by Google, this is nonsense.

How do I know? Well, earlier this month I decided to do a test on using free domains and free hosting using byethost to see if this so-called claim that some people make that you can't get indexed in Google had any truth to it. I don't know why I did this test actually, possibly out of boredom and just plain curiosity. Long story short..you CAN get indexed, it has nothing to do with using free hosting, or a free domain.

Now that that's answered.

Login to filezilla using the byethost settings you should have saved that they provide in pdf format, because it has all your information you need.

I recommend you add your ftp login to the Site Manager, so you don't have to keep typing it in all the type to login to your hosting. To do this, go to File > Site Manager.

Now, a window will open, and you will need to enter your FTP information. If the boxes are greyed out, click New Site, then where it says Host you put your FTP Server, which should be something like ftp.byethost#.com. Where it says user and password in Filezilla, you use the FTP username and FTP password.

Now, I'm going to guess you already have the Wordpress files downloaded.

So, the next step is to open the Wordpress folder that contains all the downloaded files, and drag them into the main folder of your site. The folder and files should be extracted. Ok, so if your site is called yoursite.com, drag and drop all the files into this folder. It'll take a few minutes to transfer everything over.

If you haven't added your domain to byethost, and configured the nameservers you need to do that too.

To do this, under Domains when you're logged into your byethost account, add your domain name. Your namesever links are also listed on this same page.

Now, to get the Wordpress to show up on the web, you need to configure your nameservers. Byethost has 5 nameservers that you need to add when you login to wherever you got your domain from. There should be a nameservers area, and all you need to do is copy and paste all of the nameserver links that were listed on your Domains page of byethost.

I hope this helps, I typed it all in a bit of a rush.

Just a suggestion: Get unlimited hosting with unlimited domains from any good web host. Why use a free hosting to save a few dollars when you are putting a lot of effort into it? That ways you will have better control and service. What say?

Hi Guys sorry to bump this thread but my question is about byethost... i recently registered as a free host member in byethost and im planning to upgrade my plan to premium hosting... my problem is the domain name, i want to retain my domain name given by byethost because this is already indexed in google and have some visitors... how can i upgrade my plan without affecting the traffic of my site? can i still use my old domain name given by byethost? or if possible, how can i change my free domain name to paid but will migrate the traffic from free domain of byethost to my new paid domain name??? please help me! thanks
