Newbie question: Are my jump in commissions due to Holiday Shopping right now?

Hi everyone,

I still consider myself relatively new to Internet Marketing. I started learning about it in June 2010. And really started building campaigns to sell physical products on Amazon in August.

I had some early success the first few months, earning from $10-30 in commissions each month from August to November.

Now, in December so far, I've had a nice size jump in sales and commissions, to over $125 as of 12/18/2010!!!

---
So my question: Is this primarily due to the Holiday Shopping season of December? Should I expect this to drop off again after December? Or is it possible for this to stick month after month?

---
For some additional context, I'm basically writing "product review" type articles to Ezine Articles, which links to simple blogger pages, which links to (primarily) Amazon products.

I also have some Squidoo lenses linking to Amazon products that account for maybe 15% of my sales.
---

Thanks for any insight.

I think it is due to holiday shopping because my commissions jumped about 30 percent higher this month. As for it continuing, typically shopping drops until around March so January and February may even be lower than your past few months.

P.S. congrats on the $125 in December!

  • Well, are you doing anything different now than you were before? If you are doing the exact same thing, then you may be able to chalk up your increased success to the holiday season. But, if you are making changes to what you are doing, then that may be the answer...

The only real thing you can do is wait until the holiday season is over and see how your commissions change...

      Thanks Bryce84 and One Cent.

I definitely have NOT done anything different. I actually haven't done too much work on this since October... All of my articles/campaigns I published back before October. So yeah, it "feels" like a temporary "holiday" surge.

We'll see what happens in the next couple months.

Either way, the nice jump this month is enough "motivation" for to keep building more of what I've done for sure!

      Thanks again,

    First Congrats on your success!!

To answer your question it could be a number of things, with Holiday shopping being one of them, more so if your niche product is something that people are buying for gifts to others.

It could also be your back links from your articles to your blog pages taking hold in Google's eyes.

You should be tracking where your clicks and conversions are coming from so you can fine tune your campaigns. Split testing would also be advised.

To answer your question will your conversions decline? Who knows, best thing to do is to keep pumping out articles and build more backlinks.

It's highly likely to be the Holiday season but the good news is that your strategy is obviously working!

        Hi everyone,

        Quick update from this thread...

Well after my initial posting, my December Holiday sales quickly slowed down. I think I may have made 1 or 2 more in December, and that was it. So I was pretty sure the small success was all Holiday shopping.

BUT... so far for the first 5 days in January, I've earned even MORE than I did the beginning of December last month. A total of 7 orders so far from Amazon.

Just wanted to share my happy and somewhat surprising discovery that I'm still getting some activity in sales even after December!
