Made My First $6 on Amazon

Now, I know that is not enough for me to retire or pay off my credit card bills, but I just started promoting Amazon products about 2 weeks ago using autoblogging, so I am thrilled to see that it REALLY works. I use WP-robot and it really works well so far.

I made $6.34 so far to be exact, but this surely is motivating. That is based on just 2 products, so I have got to get busy and generate more volume!

I just want to encourage everyone who may not be seeing results as yet to HANG in there. It does work!

    Congratulations Darla!

It seems to be happening to quite a few people all of the sudden. Must be the holidays. There was another thread around here where someone made $8 or so and broke their personal record.

    Good luck in the future!

Thanks. It must be the holidays indeed, cause that was fast and the products are both $70 and up, so not cheap. One was a luxury camping bed the other a men's brief case. Either way, its motivating! :-)

LOL. I can indeed confirm that the Amazon associates are not all making it up. I hope to be able to confirm that people do earn $1000 PLUS amazon checks by this time next year!

Congratulations, I hope you have many more to come - you have broken the first big hurdle - it gets easier as you go along.

One thing not to forget - put plenty of relevant information on your website / blog and keep on building it up - basically give Google what he is looking for.

I am receiving between 150 and 200 visitors per day at the moment. So there is lots of room to increase traffic and sales. I had been neglecting this site for a while until a few weeks ago when a good mentor suggested I install Wp-robot to keep the site "alive". I just wish I had followed her advice months ago.

I thought google was a "she"! LOL.

Thanks for the good advice. I am doing my best to post relevant information every other day plus build backlinks on an ongoing basis. So I'll monitor who traffic and conversions improve in the months ahead.

Congratulations! Its not much but it is a beginning. By the way if your promoting Amazon products you may be interested in a Wordpress Plub just for Amazon Products. I automatically populates your site with the Amazon products. You can find it at my site "stewscorner" in the latest posts.

      Thanks. I'll check it out.

$6.34 is indeed a humble beginning, but it did not put my time and effort into this as yet. I am optimistic that the returns will be proportionate to the time, and consistent effort that I invest to grow the site and take it to the next level. I don't need to become a millionaire, but it would be great to earn $500 per month consistently to cover some monthly bills. Every little bit helps. :-)

YES! I did promote the site. I did some backlinks on high profile sites which I ordered from a warrior here on the forum, PLUS I do backlinks to my posts using WP syndicator. I think the holiday season accounts for the FAST results too though. I just wish I had starting giving the site some attention sooner.

Yeah...ad the IM heavy hitters would say...wash-rinse-repeat. I am trying to focus on posting every other day and backlinking. I plan to stick to that routine for 3 months and monitor increase/growth. So far that's all I've been doing.

Thanks Sheryl. I am following the tips and advice of the more experienced warriors. And the primary advice seems to be persistence and consistency. Its so easy to feel like "giving up" when you don't see results. These early results are motivating, so I hope to build on that for bigger and better results in 2011.

It sure does feel good, but the best feeling is knowing that I am heading in the right direction. I was reluctant to do Amazon cause the 4% commissions seems too little compared to the 50-75% Clickbank commissions. But selling physical products has some benefits too and Amazon is the #1 online physical products store. I will be more than happy with a 4% piece of that pie!

Don't be afraid of those 4% numbers. With a few sites and some Web 2.0, I routinely hit 7% with a few 7.5% months mixed in.

Just be prepared for a drop in sales over the next month or so as the holiday season winds down. That's to be expected. Just keep building.

So true. That 4% was a turn off initially, but now I can appreciate that 4% of $1000 is better that 75% of $0. LOL. Also, I was not aware that the commission goes up to 8% as volume increases. I found that out last month which is when I finally decided to get try Amazon.

Good tip to be prepared for a drop in sales in January as the busy shopping season winds down. Since I got started so late this year, I consider January - October 2011 as an EARLY start for the 2011 shopping season! :-)

      Sher,

Keep plugging away. Tweak where needs to be tweaked, but stay at it. I saw a great video here on the forum from Anthony Robbins yesterday. It talked about being one millimeter away from success. You may be just one millimeter away from success...so keep at it.

    Nice work!

I was just wondering, did you manually write the reviews or posts for the amazon product and just use wp-robot for generating traffic to the site through articles or did you use their amazon plugin?

I use the plugin and add my own text as well to make it a bit unique. I also add unique tags, change the title, and use the All-in-one Seo plugin. So I do some extra stuff to make it a bit unique.

Congrats on your success Darla . The $ amount isn't the big thing at this point - it's that your actions are starting to pay off!

I use an Amazon auto-poster on my physical product niche blogs too. And as much as possible I rewrite what the plugin pulls from the Amazon page for the visitors to my sites (by adding a bit of my personality to the post to make it "lively") and for SEO by targeting the product name in the title, the beginning of the post and the end of the post.

If you're using any Amazon widgets in your sidebar (and you haven't done this already), you should consider installing the WP Super Cache & the WP Widget Cache plugins - they will help speed up your site's load time.

One other thing: I hope you will consider monetizing your site beyond Amazon to include CJ, EPN & Linkshare. It all depends on your niche, but chances are Amazon isn't the only game in town for the products you're selling. For example, one of my Halloween accessories niche sites made money during that season from Amazon, an online retailer in CJ and off of eBay auctions through EPN. Doing this not only made me more money without any additional effort, but it provided more value to my visitors by giving them more shopping options.

I wish you continued success. And have a Merry Christmas

Thanks for the great tips! I look into installing WP supercache and widget cache plugins. SO far I only use Amazon and Adsense to monetize, I had a CJ account but it got closed when I was not able to sell a product for 6 months! :-( I am also busy working on an Amazon kindle book which I will add to the site soon for more monetization options.

I was just having a look at my first Amazon site and wondering why I haven't received any sales for the last two days, when I've just noticed it's dropped from the 2nd place in Google down to page 4. What a really annoying time for this to happen! Grrrrrrr! I'm hoping this is just the Google dance and will return to its original position soon. In the meantime, I've added some more backlinks just in case. Its in a fitness niche, so I was hoping to see how well it would do in January.

ARGGGGGH! I hope your site climbs back up to page 1 in time for the new years resolutions bonanza. The fitness niche is a great niche to be in when January rolls around. Google can be so unpredictable at times (most of the time actually). Adding some more backlinks was the right thing to do, it certainly cannot hurt and may be just what was needed to regain your #2 spot.

I believe my "fast results" are holiday related too, but it surely gets me motivated to keep busy and intensify my efforts. There is something about seeing the "earnings" tab in your account with a dollar figure in it for the first time that gets you going. The sense of achievement is really energizing. :-)

Humble beginnings can be the start of something gigantic. fact is, you earned something, which means your system works. Tweak it and grow it, and that $0.8 can turn to $8, then $80, then $800. Stick with it and you'll get there.

Yes, you are absolutely right, that's why i keep learning. For every mistakes that i made, i will always learn something. In fact, i did a lot of mistakes :p But, i'm okay with it, I think everyone that has became experts has their trials and errors experience before.

If I had to keep track of all the mistakes I made along the way, I could write a book! LOL. From listening to the wrong people, to spending money on the wrong things, to doubting myself,...the list is LONG! But the truth is, you do learn from your mistakes. The key is to learn from them and not keep repeating them. Learning from OTHERS mistakes is beneficial too.

You definitely have the right mindset and attitude. Which puts you way ahead of the crowd.

Hi darla, do you have a domain and hosting for your blog? Or do you just link them back through articles and hubpages etc. Thanks, just new and trying to figure out what costs are involved.

YES!! I have a domain and hosting for my blog. That gives the maximum level of control. What I have done recently is to build a web 2.0 network around it so that I can do backlinking effectively from themed and on-topic sites. Hope that helps.

  • YOU GO GIRL! I remember when I had my first affiliate sale after weeks of busting my hump. Sure is a great feeling! Hold on to it and crank it up a notch.

The feeling of accomplishment is really motivating.

I was concerned that with only a 24 hour "buy period" Amazon would be really HARD to generate income, but it may be easier than I thought. The key may be to target people who are already in a "buy" mode...so once they get to the site and click through to amazon, the sale is all but complete.

Thats some good news. I was really excited after I made my first $10 or so from Amazon. If you keep working the amount you make per day will only go up. It really helps to sell more than 7 items per month, since then you get 6% commission instead of a measly 4%.

That's indeed a good short term goal: 7 a month! That should be doable once I can increase traffic. Its all such a numbers game. It starts and ends with the quantity and quality of your traffic. With regular posting and backlinking I should be able to get to that 7 a month goal and much higher.
