New Approach to Affiliate Marketing - Feedback Requested

Hello all...

I've been sitting on a few different websites and Web 2.0 properties that have been generating upwards of $1,000 per month from Amazon.

Taking a cue from those who preach against putting all of your eggs in one basket, I've put together what I think (hope) is another solid revenue-generating endeavor while, at the same time, providing a valuable service to other marketers interested in profiting from the Amazon affiliate program.

The site below is a site which promotes Amazon products. However, it also includes a neat twist by allowing other marketers to do any (or all) of the following:

Gain DO-FOLLOW backlinks to their own sites
Promote affiliate products
Submit product reviews

I guess the best way to describe it is a cross between a revenue-sharing site and a straight-up product review site.

If you would be so kind as to take a look and give me your feedback, I'd be very appreciative. Let me know what you like about it and what you don't.

  Thanks. No, the content would not need to be exclusive. By permitting marketers to promote affiliate links (something most article directories do not allow), while requiring them to submit very little content (in the cases of product sponsorship, no content), it allows people to profit with very little work. At least, that's my pie in the sky idea

  If there's anything that isn't clear or doesn't make sense, let me know. I have about 25 of these sites ready to roll out (hundreds / thousands of products on each site) but I just wanted to get feedback from actual marketers on what could be improved.
  
  I originally planned to charge a monthly membership fee for those interested in simply providing short product reviews but thought better of it so now submitting product reviews with affiliate/website links is free.

From what I have seen in a few different forums, I think that your idea will take off when you get the message to people. Many people that are just starting out get very discouraged because they put so much work in and see no return. With your idea, they could have better results while trying to get some of the IM basics down. I like your idea.

  Thanks. Point taken. I'm hoping to mitigate spam via manual review of all posts. I'll have to look into affiliate link cloaking/redirection. My own links are already cloaked so I'll have to see if I can cloak user-submitted links.

  Well put. Thanks for the honest feedback. I appreciate it. We've considered keeping the site Amazon/CJ-centric by allowing only Amazon/CJ affiliate links. I'd rather not do that as the lure of the DOFOLLOW backlinks would certainly draw some subset of marketers. However, keeping it Amazon/CJ-centric may solve that problem.

Hello,

I really like your idea. I love how it incorporates both Amazon and other affiliate's resources. This perfect! I just had one thing that you might want to consider...

Maybe you could instead place a link at the bottom of your webpage promoting to Internet Marketers and then you could use the website that you have now to display reviews only. (It might confuse visitors from the outside if they are seeing both the opportunity to make money and product reviews). I know if I was a customer that was looking for a product, I would want to find that exact product with the reviews and maybe not an opportunity to make money. However, I think you still need to keep that opportunity open because it is a wonderful idea, but I think you should be clear to the customer you are selling to.

  I agree. I'm a bit concerned about the block on the right side (with the green $). We're currently debating who our real target market is right now so, yeah, placement will probably change over time.

Many thanks to those who have provided feedback. We will take this feedback under advisement and use it to make the site better. There are some additional features coming once we settle on the features we currently offer.

If anyone else comes cross this thread overnight (2:30am here), feel free to take the site for a spin. The free user registration should be working as well as the sponsored product option.

I have had a look through your site and like the concept. Your site is clean looking with a professional feel which I like. I definitely would sign up for a site such as this on a topic which I was more confident in contributing worthwhile reviews &/or content. Are you able to give us a hint about other sites?

  Thanks. One of the cool things about the site is the fact that people who want to earn from Amazon can do so without needing to write a single bit of content (using the Sponsored Product option).
  
  We've currently got a stable of sites setup the same way. Some are niche sites and some are broader in scope. Our plan is to offer product overviews on literally thousands of products, providing our readers with solid product info on just about any product they'd be interested in while at the same time providing internet marketers a platform to earn with the need for big investments of time, money, or content.
  
  Once we determine the course we want to take, we'll start turning things on. To be honest, we are leaning toward several broader-niche sites instead of a single site covering a rainbow of different types of products.

It looks pretty interesting and I'll continue to look into it. It does look like a good opportunity to expand. Also, if you are promoting amazon products you may be interested in amazon-one which you can access below.

Thank you for the additional input. We are readying a pilot and will be looking for 20-30 marketers who would be interested in participating.

We are looking for folks interested in providing short laptop reviews (50-100 words during the pilot phase). Reviewers will be allowed 2 links in each review during the pilot phase. In addition, we are looking for folks who wish to sponsor listings. Product sponsorship is free during the pilot phase (waiving the $9/month fee).

Hopefully, we get enough interested parties so we can test out our registration, back-end processes, and conversion rates.

If anyone would like to be involved, just setup a free account and start submitting reviews (approximately 50 word minimum). We're not collecting any fees during the pilot since we just want to be sure everything is working.
