Default Should I Convert My Site To A Blog?

I have a couple of sites that I'm considering converting to WP blogs for SEO purposes.

The sites, even though they are static, already have RSS feeds.

Anyone have experience in this? Is it worthwhile?

Do you really rank that much better with a blog?

Yes, do it...

It's definitely worth it if you go about it the right way...

The point of a blog or any cms for that matter it to make it easy to add new content, just login, enter a new post and boom you're done... compared to a static site that involves creating a new html page, updating all your links, well you get the picture.

Basically, it doesn't matter if it's a blog or static website, it's HOW OFTEN NEW CONTENT IS ADDED!

This is how to get better se love...

Absolutely. If you are updating all the time it's much easier with a blog.

You don't want to lose your google ranking for the existing pages.

If your pages already are listed in google consider 1 of these 2 strategies:
- leave the original pages intact and add a link to your blog pages.
- duplicate your original content to the blog, remove the old pages and use htaccess to redirect 301 the old URLs to the new pages from the blog.

Be careful when converting as you can effect your SERP. You'll need to keep your page names, extensions, tags, descriptions and content intact if you don't want to hurt your rankings. It can be done but do your homework before attempting it.

Since I started using hosted wordpress blogs instead of html based sites, I've never looked back. I'm slowly working on converting all my old sites, then hopefully they should start ranking better.

Sound advice. Especially about making sure you do the 301 redirects.

But otherwise, go for it! I only create blogs these days. Can't even remember the last time I had to open FrontPage!!

Hey Evita,

Keep your site, and add a blog in a subfolder.

Yoursite.com/blog

It works very well for me.
