IS THIS POSSIBLE? A JV Question

Hey guys,

If I had a report, but, with little knowledge about how to market it, but, I wanted to sell it, COULD I do this?

1. Find someone or many with a large marketing list from opt-ins, or other previously sold reports or products.
2. Get them to send an email out to their people that would promote my report to their people.
3. Give them proceeds of the sale.

Does anyone ever do this?

How hard is it to set up?

  • Yes, it would be very hard to succeed in Internet Marketing without doing something similar to that. It's very much a relationship business.

The difficulty is building up that relationship that makes someone to choose about your product, rather than any other.

One of the best strategies I discovered is to offer 100% commission for the mail for the front end, and 50% for the back end product. Even better if you set this up as instant commission (e.g. using Rapid Action Profits).

You could also purchase a solo ad and try and make your investment back that way. In that case, you want to try and test out your offer with small mailing lists before going the whole hog and spending a relatively large amount of money.

One way to do it is to give them the ebook and even create a sales page and offer that to them also. They then host the sales page and ebook on their own server and all of the customers go to their site for the purchase. The list owner then gives you your cut of the profits once the sales are in. Generally you'll get a screenshot of the sales along with your share of profits to show that you're getting your fair share.

The thing is, you pretty much have to trust the list owner. Most people are honest and if you come to them with the product and sales page already created and explain your situation (e.g., you have no list and no way to market it) they'll help you out. Assuming the product is something that fits their niche, would be of interest to their subscribers, is of quality, etc. Then you just have to haggle over how to divide the profits between you. If it works well and everyone's happy you can repeat the process.

If you don't want to do it that way, the next option is to set up an affiliate account and get them to use an affiliate link to your product. You can use Clickbank for this, but it takes a few days for them to review your site and approve it and it also costs $49.95. There's also PaySpree.com which might be better as the list owner would be paid directly into their Paypal account instantly with each sale. There's also no review period, so you can get started immediately. PaySpree also offers 100% commission if you wanted to, as suggested above, offer 100% commission on the ebook and, say, 50% commission on a secondary ebook that you could upsell during the sales process.

With the affiliate programs you'll have to host the sales letter/landing page and Thank You page, along with the ebook, yourself so you'll need hosting. Other than that, you just place the "Buy Now" button code that the affiliate program gives you on your site and you're all set to contact list owners. Just let them know which program you're using. Pretty much everyone you contact will likely have a Clickbank account and know how to set up the affiliate link for when they mail to their list. You may have to inform them about PaySpree if you use that one but it's free for them to sign up and the instant Paypal commission should make it an easy choice for them.

Finally, it may not be enough to just have a product. List owners and people who have their own products are constantly asked to promote other peoples' products as you're suggesting. You'll have to stand out somehow to get noticed and be considered. Here's my advice. Offer the following to the list owner in addition to the commission:

    (1) Write a short report (10 - 15 pages) on a topic related to your product. Give this to the list owner and let them do whatever they want with it (e.g., sell it, give it away to their list, use it as a bonus for their own products, etc)

    (2) If the list owner has their own product, offer to promote it within your product as a "recommended resource" either within the text or at the end. You can use your own affiliate link here and possibly get some extra money.

    (3) Find out if they need some content for their site or list. Offer to write 3 to 5 articles (500 words or so each) that they can use for this purpose. Let them put their name on it if they want to. This lightens their workload which should make it tempting.

    (4) Simply ask them what they need to make the deal happen. Too often people skip this simple step and wonder why deals fall through. If you just ask what the other person wants to make your offer happen they'll either tell you outright or simply tell you that there's nothing you can do to get the deal done. Either way you're better off. You can either negotiate with them or you'll know for certain that they can't be worked with and you can stop wasting your time.

Hope that helped or at least gave you some ideas..

This is a great start for any JV. You can do other things such as create product launches together, help each other succeed in each others fields, etc. That would be down the road after you've successfully jv'd for a while.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

My report deals with how to get satisfaction after one has purchased a product or service that has not performed as expected. I have used this method to get 2 Dell Laptops replaced, a Sprint phone replaced, 1 Sprint bill lowered, excessive charges removed from a Verizon account, and, a Compaq IPAQ handheld computer repaired.

The process you described is more commonly referred to as JV brokering. You get people to find joint venture partners for you, and they get 2nd tier commissions. You would need to use an affiliate platform that allows this.

If I didn't want to go through Clickbank, and, wanted to set this up rather quickly, what would I need to do? I could design a squeeze/sales page, but, don't know how to put it on a server to download after payment, etc.....

if you weren't going to use Clickbank, I'd recommend using Rapid
Action Profits. I have maybe 2 dozen sites set up with the affiliate
programs powered by RAP, and they all work beautifully.

    Jeremy,
This is a relationship business, so begin to forge a
relationship with others bigger names whom you can
    eventually jv with.

Visit their blogs, compliment them on it and comment
on it, giving great tips or strategies you know.

    Then, email them, compliment them.
Later, email them again if they respond and ask them
if you can do anything for them.

Don't mention if you have a report for their list at first.
Ease into that. Make sure it's a great report!

Hope this helps & may you have great success in 2011.
    Happy holidays, everyone!

    Thanks, Vince.

All I need to do is sell about 50,000 copies, at $10 each, and, keep $5 out of each report. Then - i am good!
