Negative Energy be gone!

I had a friend of a friend ask me for help with a project, so I decided to take it. Once I got involved, I soon realized I was dealing with a person who would never be happy no matter what I did.

I'm sure you have had people like this. No matter how cheerful you are. No matter how much time and effort you make. Somehow everything is your fault.

In this case, it was me plus two very talented employees. Somehow it was our fault, and we were helping because the last company was not responding.

Today, I parted ways and feel SO MUCH better. I gave the guy a refund too. We worked like 35-40 hours, and only billed him like 20 after the refund, and I told him so.

Almost immediately after parting ways, I received an email from a customer telling me how much they loved our latest software version, and how happy they were with our custom work. This is a great customer who will be doing 100s of ours with us. Good thing we don't have the negative customer weighing us down!

Sometimes it just makes sense to send a refund and move on. I feel much better now!

    Every so often I've had a customer that was so difficult to work with that I refunded them when they did not want a refund and cut them loose. It's liberating. Most of my customers are pretty great, fortunately.

      I have a special rate that I charge family and friends and I tell that they are getting the special rate when I work by the hour.

      What I don't tell them is that it is double what I usually charge. And just the amount alone, usually keeps most of them away.

        Getting rid of negative people make you feel so much better. They are never happy no matter what. You will always find people out there who will like your product.

    When I come across someone negative, I jump in my car and drive FAST in the opposite direction (who runs nowadays? it's 2011)

    These negative peeps don't do any good to themselves but they also drain you out.

      Good move! Some people "just can't be helped" no matter how hard you try. Instead they blame other people for their lack of results!

        I've always evaluated early in the consulting process whether someone would be a PITA to work for/with. On several occasions I have priced my services incredibly high and they hire me! I guess they can't get anyone to listen to them so they pay me enough to offset the PITA issue.

        I never cease to be amazed.

    I said it was a friend of a friend I believe. I spoke with the first friend of many years, and he tells me this person still wants me to work with him. I must not be so bad after all. Nevertheless, I will not work with him unless we get a complete reversal on the negative energy. This person is hot and cold.

    Yes sir ... sometimes you just have to fire a customer. They eat up too much time, turning a profit into a loss. I've been there.
