Question for Display Network Ninjas...

Hey guys,

Question for anyone who regularly runs Adwords on the Display Network...what's the best way to maximize impressions? I threw a couple of video ads on there and the CTR is INSANE (like 7-9%!!!) but I need more impressions. I've stuffed that Adgroup full of the maximum number of Keywords (2,000) but I'm wondering if there's anything I haven't thought of...

Thanks,
R

You have to remember that there are still very few websites out there that run/accept videos ads - in comparison to the whole inventory of traffic Google has available, it's only a small percentage.

I would suggest getting into some banner advertising on the content/display network. You should be able to find a lot more websites and traffic that allow banners on their sites.

The CTR will not be as good as your current video ads but you should be able to get a decent amount more traffic - obviously it all depends on the audience you are trying to reach.

You have too many keywords in your adgroup. You'll probably get more impressions if you limit it to just 10 - 30 keywords per adgroup. With smaller keyword sets per ad group, it's easier for Google to determine the theme of your ad group and match it to placements.

    deertail,

I know that's true for the Search Network, but I was under the impression that vis a vis the Display Network, more = better?

      No, I think he's right.

In the display network the keywords are used to guage a general theme for your ad. Obviously the more keywords you have, the more laser targeted that theme will be and the less traffic your ad will be exposed to. Or even worse they will find it hard to establish the theme for your ad and will end up showing your ads where you don't want them to show.

If you use less keywords they should generate a much broader theme and thus your ad will be put on more websites.

And remember to track everything and look for sites that your ads are showing on and getting no clicks - and add those sites to the ignore list or whatever it is called these days. This will help improve your overall CTR.
