Is This Marketing Idea Any Good?

IIRC, Paulo Coelho used to torrent his own books which ultimately led to a massive increase in sales. Now his publisher makes one of his works publicly available everything month.
Just something to think about"

Seth Godin also gives away some of his new books in ebooks before going into selling them as hard copy.
He has about 13 best sellers. Perhaps this is a good idea?
Anybody got any views, feedback or links to read?

  • It's proven to work, just be careful on what you give away.

  • Hi,
I advise you to research on the topic. Sometimes your product can get viral on torrents as torrents to 1000% more syndication than normal directory articles.

I've had great success giving away free reports with paid products on the backend, so I think it's definitely worth pursuing. Test it!

Free offer is often the attractive and irresistible starting point of great paid product offer. However, you have to be aware that there are freebie seekers everywhere on the internet. They can only receive anything once it's free but if it's not free, you know what they will do.

Yes, it's a good marketing idea if it's done properly. BTW, free offers are often a no-brainer.

You are missing the most important factor of them "giving away" their books. They are doing it with PUBLICITY to gather momentum for sales.

If I wrote a book today and dropped it into the Torrent feeds it would probably just quietly fade away.

If you have at least a bit of notoriety already, and publicize the fact about your give away, you create buzz, excitement, readers, and additional sales.

The bottom line, it is not the "freeness" of the book, it is the publicity of the book which is doing the work.

At least that is my opinion...

A piece of the puzzle that isn't really very popular to discuss is that Godin and Coelho are both REALLY good writers, with interesting things to say, and fascinating stories to tell.

      Viral tactics aren't one-size-fits-all.

Viral works to generate a legitimate worldwide buzz in proportion to how crazy people go for what you've written or done.

The strategy mentioned above of giving away freebies with the intent to sell on the back end? Tried and proven.

The strategy of using free distribution channels to create buzz about the original document? Only if the original document is really, truly excellent.

Better yet, come out with a short video that will tell people a bit about your book, or product, or service, and thus "wet their appetite" for more. Then syndicate the video out to social media sites, or get someone else to do it for you.

        trnz,
I believe that it was Zig Ziglar who said that you
should give away $10 for every $1 you expect to earn.

Create your own buzz by giving away a few copies, and
asking those you gave the copies to if they'd be so nice as to
        give some reviews.

        It works, believe me!
