Does Anyone Market To High Schoolers?

I'm looking into a niche where the target market would be high school kids, but I don't know if it would be worth it. what do you think?

I think it might be worth it but it would be a littler harder to make money in, because high school kids may or may not have any money or credit card, bank accounts, etc.

How many of them have credit cards or a paypal account? My guess is probably not many, so you'd have to market not only to the high schooler, but to the parent who has these accounts as well.

Pretty basically, who is going to be able to pay for the product? Loads of these kids have some kind of part time job, so they have money, but can they purchase from you?

Students under 18 are limited in what they can do.

I market to this age group. Most of the ones that are interested in what I offer do have paypal accounts. If not, they find a way to get their parents to mail a check out or they have know someone who has a paypal account and they give them their cash cash to pay me. Though some can't find a way to pay you other than cash so they mail out envelopes stuffed with $1's and $5's. So they do have money to spend. You just need to have the right offer.

High School Kids Are a good demographic to market too.
Just look at all the Ipod Sales. This demographic gets what it wants.
A good majority of them have I Touch , I Pads , and cell phones too.

Either via their own debit card or via their parents, they do get what they want. Look at the sneakers, back packs, lap tops, etc that these kids have with them today. All good stuff.

Don't under estimate the power of this demographic.
The Question is what is your product or service about
      and will it interest them?

Yeah- I have a skateboarding product that appeals to a lot of teens. I get a million emails a day asking me to convince their parents to buy it for them.

This is most likely going to be a problem, so make sure you handle that objection- testimonials from parents would help the most the.

Agreed, you need to know how to target the product properly. In my experience, targeting teens has been quite easy. You'd be surprised the amount of people with a Paypal account these days.. every teen uses eBay right?

I don't think it's a problem, but I think you could invest your time into better areas. The reality is that you will probably not make as much money as you would marketing to people over 18. They usually don't have credit cards or a lot of money to spend.

I think this is only true depending on what he is trying to pitch to them.
I am fresh out of highschool and can tell you for a fact that despite having a smaller target audience than all adults, a targeted product that gets good reviews from highschoolers would have the potential to spread like wildfire, that's just how kids operate at those ages.
Entire schools are linked via social networking, thus if you managed to get a few to bite, you could spread quickly.
Follow the leader mentality could come into play if you could market yourself properly and generate sufficient interst.

          what about stealing credit cards?:confused:--->--->:rolleyes:
          I'm joking obviously.
You have a point, as stated above....
I guess when you think about it there really aren't that many high-schoolers above the age of 18, probably around 25%, which isn't much when you think about it.
But again, depends on the product, definitly a few things to think about before taking action in this instance.

I am on that trend, but my idea also covers just about any one that's had a relationship go south.

High School kids seem to have a lot of those. LOL

It's worth exploring. Have you checked with high school children to get their opinions on the product/service you're considering marketing?

I would suspect, as a few others mentioned, that kids generally don't have credit-cards or paypal accounts, however children can influence/ask their parents to buy things for them. So it might be profitable, but not as profitable as other audiences.

One example I can think of is "Club Penguin" - an online game specifically for kids, yet the game has micro-payments to buy virtual goods. So kids ask their parents to buy things for them. Disney bought that company so it must be profitable
