Firesales Are Killing The Internet Marketing Niche

Hey Warriors,

Firesales, especially those with ridiculous amounts of paid products going at 'night market' prices, are very bad for the Internet marketing niche. Especially when the firesale has come without purpose.

Frankly, such firesales cheapen the market place and creates price wars. Price wars are the last thing anyone needs. Turning the IM niche into a night market is the last thing anyone wants. Whatever happened to providing original products that provide real value? (And I'm not talking about bunching up 200 'yesterday' products)

I fear I may be flamed for this one. But 'fire' away!

Vanessa

I read a thread about someone that had a "firesale" and they didn't do that good with it. I guess there wasn't enough perceived value, even though so many things were on sale. I think one of the main problems is that the sale was so cluttered and that turned people off from even considering such a purchase.

I believe you can sell anything and be very successful. You just have to present it the right way. Remember, people want to push that one "easy button" to solve their problem, not 5, 10, 20, or whatever the number of products are in a firesale.

That may be your perspective Vanessa,

but take a minute to think outside yourself and think like a potential customer... these firesales aren't promoted for no reason... THEY WORK!

Think for a minute & take a step back, and think like your customer would think, just like in the grocery store, if they offered me a bunch of food for a discounted price, sure I would probably buy it.

Take a step back before you discard certain techniques... you wouldn't see them everywhere if they didn't work & convert now would you?

Would you buy it if was a bunch of food they found in the garbage, where most of these fire sale products come from?

I don't see them everywhere. In fact, I see them rarely.

I've come to think of firesales and giveaways as nothing but junk.... In some cases I've even unsubscribed from lists because of them.

Firesales used to offer really good products and great value once upon a time.

These days it seems like each firesale has more junk than the last. I'm not saying all of them are bad but the vast majority them seem to be.

Part of the problem is the people running the firesales seem to be having more of a garage sale than anything else. It's usually a jumbled up pile of stuff that is outdated and most of the products have nothing to do with any of the others in the same offer.

Firesales would do much better, and have a better reputation, if the people running them would gather together new products that still have real value, quality products instead of last years leftovers, and products that all tie together in some way.

Running sales of 40 products that have nothing to do with each other and are just a jumble of stuff usually ends up confusing the potential customers or turning them off because they know there is no way they could ever use everything offered.

Just like any other type of sale or promotion, a firesale will ONLY be effective if their is a great story (reason why) which caused the sale to happen in the first place.

I would agree that nearly every firesale I've seen in the past several years has been an incoherent heap of unrelated, byzantine info products.

An especially remarkable exception was Chris Sutton's firesale last year, which was a very nice, complementary collection of products that appeared to me to be quite thoughtfully composed and put together.

Oh, and it was something I could USE.

I made the mistake of buying several some time ago
only to find out that some were only partial products
that led to more products needing to be purchased, membership
products were only for a short period of time, and none of the
products actually worked together to help me make a business
      plan.

Information overload with no way to utilize all that I bought. I
will never buy a firesale again. I also believe that less is a lot
better for those of us who need to stay focused.

I just cleaned my harddrive of hundreds of folders of products I
had bought and got as bonuses because they served no purpose
      in my online business plan.

I don't think 'firesale' will be able to kill Internet marketing niche.

It just kill peoples who don't have a 'clear' focus.

    Just my opinion.

Nothing will ever kill the IM niche. It will only evolve over time. Firesales, OTO's, Bonus Packages, PLR, MRR, RR, etc., etc. are all just different ways of packaging or marketing products.

The IM niche will never die for the simple reason that as long as there are crappy employers and sub-par pay at those crappy jobs, there will always be people looking for an exit route from those crappy jobs. The IM niche presents products to potential customers in this market that layout a roadmap or blueprint for that exit route.

Yeah, I agree - firesales are mostly a huge waste of time... mine.

Sure, I get a "great price" but then have to spend an entire day (or more) downloading all that stuff, which kills productive time. Then sorting through them trying to figure if I can use any of them. And often they're nothing but reformatted articles now called ebooks, or lame videos with a bunch of hemming and hawing for the narration.

Had exactly the same experience with the super book launches at Amazon. Huge list of "bonuses" that end up being mostly limp giveaways, free 15-minute trial consultations with people I have no interest in hiring as a coach, and a free month of trial membership in sites that hide the un-join link and you end up paying for two, three or four months of forced membership before anybody will respond and tell you how to bail out. I call that sucker bait.

So now, everytime I see a firesale or a huge book launch, I just let 'em pass on by. I can't recall ever buying one in which the pile of bonuses were worth the effort.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,
    Charles

    I will be different here...

    I LOVE FIRESALE

Simple reason. If I get 100s of products in firesale remember that most of them have resale rights. I make it a point to share them with my subscribers, add them as gifts for new sign ups, put them in my blog and even sell them to my list.

Sometime I will take 3-4 similar products, read them and create a new product of my own and sell them.

So, firesales are not waste of time or money.

It is a waste of your time and money IF you are not doing anything about them...

Firesales, like JV givaway events are not competition and usually just a way of clearing out "products" that have run their course and have little profit potential in them.

The primary strategy of these givaways is to as stated above, to pull people into the sales funnel, with ton's of trial, and affiliate offers.

If you consider the average lifespan of most IM "strategies", most 1 year old products have lost any real informational value.

The supersaturated IM niche itself is to blame for it's loss in value due to all the disinformation brandied about by pseudo-guru's and the like.

A cult of personality that feeds upon itself and all the unsubstantiated hype.

True Internet business owners have nothing to fear.

      Best!

What we don't need is to create what consumer electronics manufacturers have created in the flat panel TV market. That's the "race to zero", a situation where consistently better products are delivered at lower and lower prices. While this is initially great for the consumer, eventually it creates a problem. As profit margins erode, eventually there is little incentive for new, better products to be developed.

Firesales are short term special offers. Ex: Yous sell a product for $97 on internet marketing. For 3 days only you offer that product at either a discount or with bonus products attached to it. Then remove the discount and bonus products at the end of the firesale.

I have to agree with Dennis and the others here who see Firesales as no threat to their IM business. Let's face it those outside the "IM" niche will seldom if ever see a "Firesale".

Consequently when they start looking for a way to make money on the internet your content should be new to them. But unless you market your product/service properly it will get killed by others who market successfully.

Yes, they are a way for the ones contributing products to the Firesale, to grow their business by picking up subscribers to their list and make sales of their other products. They are a marketing tool and some of them do offer great value not only to the seller but to those who buy.

However, it's up to you to pick and choose the tools from these offers which will help you grow your business. Where the value may not be there for you in one particular Firesale, it will be for someone else.

Now let's get off our "Soap Box" and go do a "Firesale".

Firesales are just another method of marketing, same with OTOs, 1st month free membership, downsells, cross-sells, list-exchanges.. there is no REAL threat.

The money is all in the creativity, story-telling, tension-building and reasoning behind a product..

    Ok,

The IM niche is NOT going anywhere. I'll tell you where the future of IM is headed...

I was interviewed the other day by Dan Kennedy's project manager Rob Toth and the question was, "Where is the future of Info Marketing?"

My response was toward providing SHAC, otherwise known as "Super High Actionable Content" through better means of communication & retention.

If you are delivering 'Super High Actionable Content' that helps people get results and you are delivering that content through a medium that helps the listener put into action your material then you'll be fine.

    So here's the deal:

Provide Killer Content that people can use immediately in their business to get results period.

Internet Marketing has JUST begun! ; )
