A lesson learnt....! Read to avoid being exploited

Writing articles is thought to be one of the easiest ways of making some quick cash and it certainly is but there are some thugs, in almost every corner of the internet world, who are exploiting the innocent (read fresh) writers in their shameful act of earning the free services from these writers.
As i am one of the victims, i request all the writers out there to make sure that they always ask for some part of the total payment, upfront. This reduces the risk. The part can be some percentage of the total said amount of the project.
Be on the look for these thieves and walk on the safer side.
Happy writing =)

    Sorry you had that experience.

Looking at it from the other side, I paid for some articles from a writer for one of my own sites. They took my deposit, and disappeared. The only time I heard from them was when I raised a paypal dispute to get my money back. They responded and said they had sent the articles, so being a digital product, they won. I contacted them again to ask that they resend, because obviously the articles hadn't come through, and again they ignored me.

You can do your due diligence, check for feedback etc but there's always a chance that you will be ripped off, whether you are the writer or the buyer.

I agree. Its all well saying you may not get paid but you still at least have a copy of the article. You could even put the article up as a PLR. If I give you money up front and you do a runner I'm left with nothing.

It's also worth bearing in mind, if I found some brand new article writer, like you, with no idea how good you are, why am I going to pay you upfront? I'm not being rude but apart from telling me you got robbed once, which implies I'll do the same, what are you going to say to the customer about why you need payment first? how are you going to get my business?

It's fine if you're established or have a great reputation but if you're just starting out, you may not actually get to start out. A very small minority may not pay you, you can't tar everyone with the same brush.

I agree. As the first person didn't pay for my services, I know always accept up-front payment.

Here's the most empowering thing you could do.

Chalk it up as experience, learn from it and move on. Do as much homework on the opportunity as you can up front but realize that anybody can be taken in any given moment. Nobody is all-knowing. With experience you know who to do business with and who not to associate with.

All the best with your future endeavor. Onward and upward from here.

Sorry for the sad experience. The truth is that such scam can happen to either the writer or the one that hired him.

Internet or online payment security system is what we have been crying about.

Having said these, a thief can come in the form of a "master" or in the form of a "servant". A thief can come in the form of "I-want-a-writer" or in the form of "I'm-a-writer".

In conclusion, thieves exist in all walks of life.

You just have to be very careful; be very cautious.

Think it would be a good idea to immediately start selling the articles you gave them as plr when they dont pay? Possibly make your money back and then some. Or submit them to a document sharing sites with your own affiliate links in them. That way it will not be unique content for the person who ripped you off.

This is a great idea. I will sleep over it and tell you what I think about it. In deed, there are many ways to kill a stubborn or stupid or even a foolish rat.

Thanks for sharing. I hope these would help many fresh writers. I also have experience of being not paid for my first article. After that always work on up-front payment basis.
