Non-supportive partner? Does this sabotage your efforts in IM?

Hello!

I would like to know if your partner/spouse are supportive of your efforts in IM?

As if IM was not "hard enough", the added pressure of a "non-supportive" and "non-understanding" partner can be greatly detrimental to one's progress in IM.

For example, do they respect the "do not disturb" sign outside your door when you are trying to concentrate on writing a bunch of articles.

Often, if people do not immediately see results it is hard for them to take something seriously.

I would love to hear your stories.

    Hey Beatrice,

Wow that's a tough situation and I'm sorry that's your situation. I'm actually in the complete opposite situation, my partner very quickly became interested in what I was doing, more from a curiosity POV initially but when she saw the money that can be made she jumped right in and works alongside me directly.

She's got her head down, learned a hell of a lot in a short space of time and is ridiculously commited and dedicated, puts me to shame sometimes lol

I can understand why some partners might be hesitant and disbelieving, especially if there is a full family to support, but the possibility of making money online and living completely free, however you choose, is just too good a reality to just dismiss.

Firstly: It is not such a tough situation, I have handled harder things in my life. People are never 100% perfect.

.... but when she saw the money that can be made she jumped right in and works alongside me directly.
Exactly my point. What if it had taken years and years to see any money. She might not have jumped right in then?

My girlfriend wasn't very supportive at first and i guess that's because it just looked to her that i was "wasting time online" but once i made some money she realised that i had a "proper job".

I think talking to your partner and explaining the financial rewards of IM might encourage her to be more understanding of your efforts.

Being committed to your work is something that everyone around will have to get used to and once you succeed you will be admired for it

    Don't Give UP!

Quite frankly, there's no guaranty even if you have a "regular" job. I've been stiffed by more than one employer. Even if you're self employed offline, there's no guaranty of making money, even if you do the work. I've been stiffed by more than one client, as well.

My partner has been supportive of every one of my businesses, even the ones that I admit, in retrospect, were pretty hare-brained. :p

...once you have done the work, there is at least 100x times more guarantee to receive a pay cheque at the end of the month with a regular job!

... but I think for the time being I will try and focus on the positive side of IM!

My partner absolutely hates me spending any time on the computer, she says it's just a waste of time and that I will never make money from it.

Granted I haven't made anything yet but I know my day will come, does she understand? NO! Do I care? No!

The only thing that gets me down a little is that she completely doubts that I will ever make money online.

      Great thread by the way!

If my wife didn't support my efforts profitable or otherwise I would never have married her.

I don't know how I'd have reached where I'm at without the ultimate support of my husband. I was the sole supporter of our family of four in Chicago when we decided I'd go full time IM, because I was actually losing money by working a job. I can't even really wrap my head around the level of trust he must have had.

So yes, I think that your SO's support is integral to your success in IM.

My girlfriend is supportive and she has been supportive through thick and thin. Being supportive when the money is there is easy. When you're flat broke you quickly find out how much a person believes in you and your vision.

It's important for your partner to share your vision. If they don't they must accept the fact that IM is not a 9-5 gig. Disagreeing on how you choose to make a living creates tremendous tension in the relationship.

The person must believe in you. Maybe not as much as you believe in yourself, but they must believe. At least if you want a harmonious relationship.

You make a great point Brad. It's as important to support your partner. Two way street here.

Mine is very supportive. We had a rough patch when I went from a normal job where I was making close to $100K a year to making less than a third of that, but we toughed it out and got through it.

My wife never believed in the business, but once I started making money, she started shutting up and spending the money.

Most of my marriage has been punctuated by periods of large paychecks, so much so that we became the local bank for friends and family.

We learned though. Those who do not pay back, do not get additional loans. Those who do pay back, get support when they need it. LOL

      I disagree.

In order for a spouse to stop me from achieving success, I would have to let them stop me.

And I refuse to let anyone stop me from doing what I know I am capable of doing.

So in the end, it is not the spouse who stops you, but you.

I am with you on this one! I can understand that it can be hard to support someone's dream when months after months there is no money coming in!

You and your business partner must have the same likes and interests so the percent of disagreement on things is very low. You both must have a closer bonding so no more plastics or back stabbed when they are behind you. ^_^
