Getting Started New Affiliate

Hi Guys,
I started about 3 weeks ago and I am looking for some tips so I don't waste too much time trying and failing.

I don't mind buying a good info product, but there is a load of rubbish out there! I bought "my push button profits" the training videos were good but actual turnkey websites and products were crap, so i would not be happy promoting that kind of stuff.

I have come across a few methods but i don't know which ones work best.
Any help to get me started and get my CB account showing something other then 00.00 would be great!

The real learning investment is in the "trying and failing", you might look at your first efforts as research. Clickbank is a bit saturated and competitive, with the 100,000 registered affiliates, though your competition comes from perhaps 1/10 of them.

I suggest you not start with the high gravity , super competitive fields, I just used a tool to find the number of sites with affiliate links to big sellers, these examples have roughly between 1610 and 4380 sites with affiliate links:

CB code | grav | affiliate links | Product

ETVCORP 443 2120 SatelliteDirect - Highest Converting Tv to PC Product

    PHONESRCH 437 2850 PeopleSearchAffiliates

MAKINGUP 350 2960 The Magic Of Making Up (Get Your Ex Back

    MIKEGEARY1 319 4380 TruthAboutAbs

THEDSP 306 1630 The Diet Solution Program

WOWZYGOR 259 1610 Zygor ... World of Warcraft Leveling & Dailies Guides

This suggests that typically, only 1 in 5 sites have made a recent sale (1 in 13.7 for TruthAboutAbs)

Gravity, roughly speaking represents the number of affiliates who have recently made sales.
(although the number of actual affiliates is a bit higher since the system scores older sales lower, so 2 affiliates with sales a couple of months ago may count as 1 grav)

These stats don't account for direct link PPC ads.

The top affiliates of high prices internet marketing products tend to add bonuses which capture comparison shoppers.

There's a lot of talk about being a big fish in a little pond by marketing a less competitive niche product.

I agree with webapex in that it's almost a given that you are going to fail. It's part of the process. I will tell you if you want to save yourself some time and money don't buy those "push button" systems as they are almost always garbage.

Also look into other affiliate networks where you may be able to find better offers to promote.

Best strategy I can offer is....

      1. Find a Hungry Buying Market to target
      2. Find offers that you can sell to that market
      3. Set up a niche site related to the topic
      4. Hire somebody to do your SEO or learn PPC
      5. Test/tweak your site for better conversions

The one thing I wish I would have learned when I first got started is that you need to be building a list in whatever niche you decide to be in from day one. The second thing is that you can make a whole lot more money creating your own information products than you can promoting other peoples. You also build your list 10x faster that way as every customer and every affiliate you get becomes a part of your list.

Hopefully I haven't gone overboard here and this is making sense. Merry Christmas and Best of luck to you!!!

    Hi, and welcome ~

I must have missed your name, but no worries ~ my best advice would be the same and that is this:

Begin at the beginning, which is the same for everyone. Decide what kind of online business you want to build, and make it something you really love to do [if you find it addictive, that's even better] ~ digital product affiliate marketing (like ebooks from Clickbank)? in what niche or niches? why?; product marketing (like goods from Amazon.com)? cool ~ what products? why?; providing a service (like several kinds of writing, website creation, graphics, podcasts, video, etc.)? ultra cool ~ about what? for what kinds of clients? and so on.

I kind of stumbled into internet marketing, and it's taken me a while to find my feet, so to speak, largely because I dived in before I knew what I was doing (not that I know it all now, either!), or even what I wanted to do. I knew what I DIDN'T want to do anymore, but for real success, that's not enough.

And don't worry about trying and failing ~ that's the #1 time tested way to succeed. Seriously. I strongly disagree with Master Yoda on this bit. There certainly is "try" ~ in fact that must happen, usually multiple times, before you're even able to "do." If it weren't for trying and failing and trying again, you wouldn't even be able to walk, never mind using the force. It really is that simple.

There's a bit of learning curve to Internet/affiliate marketing, and it will help if you surf around the warrior forum and see what people have to say that resonates for you ~ find the web wizards that are worthy of your trust and respect (I can personally recommend a couple, and will do so without any affiliate links, so you know I have no vested interest in sending you to them: first always is Tiffany Dow ~ I wish I had a third of her energy! She's honest and straight forward about everything, and if you're not sure what you want to focus on, I recommend you check out her blog; also, Craig Desorcy [whom you'll hear brilliant things about if you hang around Tiff's blog long enough . ]).

But if you hang out here ~ post questions when you can't find info you need, and answer others' if you have something useful (or even fun!) to contribute, eventually you'll figure out the right path for you.

Whatever that path is, welcome ~ and Merry Christmas (Eve) ~

It's good to learn from others' mistakes, but in this business, failure of some sort or duration are inevitable. And valuable. Act on the best information you can find, but then just roll with the punches and learn.

Make sure you don't spend too much time analyzing and not enough time acting.

I think you should decide the kind of products and services you know about (or can learn about) and then decide the companies who offer good affiliate offers so that you can join them and become their affiliate. You should look for free affiliate programs as against paid one's as you don't loose anything even if you aren't successful.

Experience from failing is our best teacher. i can only suggest to you to find a buying market and offers that you can sell to the market. That is the only thing i can suggest and advice. Again, dont lose hope. There is always next time.

          Thanks Everyone,

I totally get that failure is the way to learn "every master was once a disaster". I have learned a lot in a short space of time. The problem is that i now know several methods, but i don't know what to invest my time in (what works most effective).

I am learning a bit about everything; copywriting, bloging, articles, backlinks...
I am now venturing into squidoo and focusing on individual lenses. i think know the recipe for a good converting lens or page, so i am going to give it a shot with key worded titles and content. I will just have to try and see what happens and then keep tweaking

Not to make this sound like too much like a plea for help; but if anyone can show me an example of what they are doing and how i would be grateful.

Thanks again everyone. you have all been helpful!

If you want to promote clickbank you should try with low gravity..... like around 20 or so. You can also sign up for Amazon and promote their products.

I've been an affiliate marketer since october 10th with clickbank. So yes I'm still a newbie. But it took me about a month and 2 weeks to make my first sale. I was just like every other new marketer, bouncing around getting information overload. I studied everything I could get my hands on.

I also took advantage of the $1 free trial training programs, since I didn't have money to pay for the full price. (Stephen Pierce Super Cash System and Commission Blueprint). and thats what you should do. Take advantage of the free trials if you don't have money to pay for training up front. That's what they made for.

Also sign up for Brad Callen's Free 7 Day SEO Training Course. Since SEO is what you want to start off with, this course will give you the basics you need to get started.

After all the training which should take about a week. Now all you have to do is get started. You should get your own website. I was broke so I started with a blogger blog lol. Which is still str8, because after a month and a half building backlinks. I'm now sitting at #9 on Google for the keyword "how to get rid of lower belly fat". I'm promoting clickbank products on that site. The conversion rate will probably suck tho. At the time when building that site I wasn't using "buyer keywords" like I should have.

And thats what you should AlWAYS do, target buyer keywords. "Product Name, Product Name Review" those keywords have the highest conversion rates. Other than that, you just have to get started. I'm averaging about 2 sales per week now and those sales are coming from my blogger blogs. Not a whole lot but I see potential.

I now have my own websites that I'm working own. =) This is my first post so I hope this helps.

p.s. You can check out that blogger blog if you want, to get an idea of what I did.

join a few other forums in the markets you are thinking about and look for posters asking questions about how to something not sellers trying to sell things, just to see what others are looking for then go back to clickbank and look for a product to fill the need

The best advice on which affiliate programs to promote - is to read reviews and actually try the products yourself. Read them and apply what they teach, or what are the products/programs about.. then you recommend them. You can promote through your blog or your list - if you already have one.

      Good luck!

Affiliate marketing then just putting up some links here and there. You need a plan, a road map. Even using a GPS, you have to put in your destination in order for it to guide you down the highway. Where do you want to go? How much do you want to make? What steps can you take to get there? Write your plan out. Details exact steps you need to take. For example, if you want to start writing articles, you may initially start with a goal of 1 to 5 articles a day, depending on your experience, and build from there. You need to also track your results so you know which medium or site is generating the most traffic and sales

The first thing that you should do is get focused. Affiliate marketing can make you some money but it will take some work. Once you have that burning desire to succeed I would stick with the basics when it comes to marketing your products. These are article marketing and video marketing. Master one or both of these methods and you will see some results!
