How do I input ads into my wordpress themes?

Can anyone help me out here?

I just want to add graphical ads to the boxes in wordpress that state "input ad here", for advertisers to click on (that are interested in advertising on my blog).

Without seeing the theme that you are referring to I would take a punt and say find the code - sounds likely to be in sidebar.php and replace the input ad here ref with the url for the image link that you wish to display. Without any more information that's all I can guess at.

Either use a theme that already has ads enabled...

or use a plugin, OIO Publisher is a good one (OIOpublisher - Control Your Ad Space), it costs $47 but can completely automate the process. If you want to go for something free, try then Got Banners plugin.
