What biz model works best for you?

I figure folks here have just about tried it all, so I thought I'd post this and see what sorts of replies it gets. This scenario involves a set of things that are used very frequently as promotions and products.

Here's the scenario:

You've interviewed someone and created an audio and/or video of it. A video could be a Webinar type of thing, or even live.

Now, let's suppose that the discussion is split into two parts:

Part-1 is more general overview.

Part-2 is a more specific "How-To" discussion

After you do the interview, you can get the audio transcribed.

If it's a video, you can strip off the audio to use as a podcast.

You can also set up a membership area with a discussion forum

So there are now potentially four distinct products:

1) Part-1 General Overview audio or video
2) Part-2 How-To audio or video
3) Transcript (maybe add a mind-map, check-list, etc.)
4) Member's area w/ Discussion forum

NOTE: Interviews used strictly to promote something are ONLY Part-1 types. The rest would usually constitute what's being sold.

If you make a video, I personally don't see any value in delivering the audio and video as separate components. However, there is one scenario that might make sense: that's when you have a lot of visual information delivered in the video that can't be conveyed easily in words.

Then for purposes of the discussion, instead of two parts like General vs. Specific, (1) could be the audio and (2) could be the video.

1) audio (stripped from video)
2) video
3) Transcript (maybe add a mind-map, copies of slides, check-list, etc.)
4) Member's area w/ Discussion forum

Sometimes people will sell the entire audio or video, and not bother with the others.

A lot of times, people will distribute (1) for free and use it to promote (2), (3), and (4) bundled together.

You could use (1) as a freebie and set up the others as an OTO.

You could use (1) as a freebie, sell (2), and use (3) and (4) as OTOs or upsells.

Your choices might vary depending on your main objective:

(A) list building; vs.

(B) maximize NET profits (what's left after paying affiliates)

Finally, there's the issue of affiliate commissions, assuming you're using affiliates. What percentage do you pay in each case where there's a payment being made?

If you've tried several of these methods over time, which ones do you find work best for each of the two objectives?

David, I think there are a couple of things at work here...

First, complaining is easy, especially if one of your personal hot buttons gets pushed.

Second, the way you laid out your scenarios, it's hard to tell just what you're asking. IF they get past the subject line, which is so general that it screams newbie looking for the easy button, even if the post itself isn't.

Sometimes threads that could be valuable end up scrolling into obscurity. You likely didn't help your case by bumping it with a mini-rant/mini-tantrum...

        Changed the subject line (again).

I've seen ambiguous one-line questions get 50 or more replies here.

So ... wing it! Answer the question however it makes sense to you.

I realize that a lot of folks simply copy how they see others doing things. So if asked to explain WHY they chose that model, they don't really have an answer.

If that's YOU (kind reader), then IF you've tried a couple of these models, just report the different results you've gotten. Surely some of these approaches do better than others. And I've seen them ALL used by MANY marketers over time.
