In need of email marketing advice

I need to generate some sales using a large email list (a few hundred thousand) I have but I have a few questions for those of you who are experts in this field.

I need to track how well the campaign converts. What is the best way to do this? I need to know when a reader has clicked a link on the email and then completed the checkout process that consists of 3 pages on the site. How would plain text emails be tracked?

What kind of template should the email use? I usually keep things very simple with just a header containing the logo and the rest of the email consists of text.

I will be sending plain text and html emails. I will be using pure360.com and they offer stats showing how many email were opened etc but I need to know which visitors actually make a purchase on my site.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    well, this needs sales conversion rather email... you need to attach a tracker in your thank you web page so that you can track the statistic. I think google analytics has a function called goal conversion... and also you can read more details in their conversion university.

    so far I know the software with the email marketing software only can trick clicks, if you want sales conversion, you need something different.
