Ezine Articles Hard to Read?

Is it just me? I find that Ezine articles is not really made to be read. The text for the article is in grey. That is the main problem, though there is a bold read color in the menu that further detracts from the text, and of course, lots of ads.

I have been working making an article script, and it seems Ezine is the top article site, but I still have a problem understanding why. It's hard for me to imagine people read these articles. I would assume it is mostly designed for people to click on the ads, rather that read the articles. Do you agree?

    I do, indeed.

That's how I'd design it, too, if I owned EZA.

Fortunately, the people who really do read the articles at EZA, without being distracted by all the advertising, are the webmasters, researchers, and ezine/newsletter compilers who go there - often as their first port of call - in search of content to syndicate.

Which is why it's by far the most successfully performing article directory in which for me to re-publish all my articles.

Ah, so the articles are read, but not on the ezine site, correct?
I take it people take this content and then create a site with a series of related articles?

Well, that's my plan/hope in submitting them there, certainly. Gradually, increasingly, they'll be read elsewhere, too.

I do get some "direct traffic"/"customer traffic" from them, too, especially when they're first published there. But I'm sure I lose a lot of that potential traffic to all EZA's AdSense (it's just the price you have to pay to get the remainder, including the "syndicators"). But this is why it's so important to publish on one's own site first, and to get traffic from article directories, in general, rather than doing backlinking campaigns for the EZA copies, thereby sending one's traffic to them, and ending up with directories outranking one's own site for one's own keywords!

Yes ... and/or people who already have a related site/newsletter (usually "site", I think) who want to keep updating it for their own SEO purposes but don't write all their own content know/think that it's "the place to look" for content. And one hopes that they include the resource-box as they're supposed to, of course, when they take it.

For those that submit articles to it, if the article is written well enough there is a strong case that many people will read the title and the first paragraph and then quickly glance through the rest of the article, pausing at the resource box long enough to see if it grabs their attention thereby allowing them to leave the site and land on our own user friendly sites.

For that reason I am now spending more time on my first paragraphs and my resource box with the subsequent paragraphs still providing quality information but without as much of a hook as the initial paragraph.

Also, for those that are actually looking for content for their own sites the ads become blinded out so that they almost never notice them. I know when I see an article on EZA I pay no attention to the adsense ads or other distracting factors because I have become immune to them.

    Respectfully,

Ok, so people republish the articles, and I assume there is at least one link allowed in the article, plus there is the resource box with another links. So each time the article is republished you get one or two links. Is that accurate?

You would get 2 self-serving links which can be used in the resource box or 1 self-serving link in the resource box and a 2nd self-serving link in the bottom third of your article. That is of course assuming you write the article with 2 self-serving links programmed in.

EZA also allows the opportunity to provide 2 non-self serving links but I rarely use them.

Thank you. I will keep this is mind as we develop our script. It sounds like syndication is also essential. Great information everyone. Much appreciated!

Oh yeah, people DO read the articles. The clickthroughs
to my sites from the articles submitted, which end up in
earnings, is proof of it. And note that some of these
    articles I submitted YEARS ago!

Nowadays, though, I concentrate more on backlinking
benefits from EzineArticles itself and from other IMers and
even scrappers who republish the articles on their sites,
thereby increasing the number of backlinks... and
rankings for your keywords in the search engines!
