Buying A Domain+Hosting as we speak

Hi guys, the faster you can answer this, the better.
I am participating in the Ed Dale 2010 challenge and I have just reachd the 1st day in Module 2, to those of you who might know him.
Anyway, the important part of the day is buying an available domain and getting it hosted. I am doing both an Host Gator as was recommended to me.
My question is this:
I live in Israel, will there be a problem in the future? I mean, the domain is
"org", does that matter?
I was just wondering if it is ok to things this way, so I can still get bussiness from the USA as well as anywhere else obviously.
I am in the final stages of the Domain purchase and I need to fill out all those annoying parts about phone numbers and adress and such.

    No, it doesn't matter.

You can buy any domain you want and live where ever you want.

    Cheers

A .org lends more credibility to certain businesses than .com does, they all have a chance to rank it is just that the .com has a slight chance for type-ins too...it depends what you want, to pay 10-50x what you picked up the .org for or to be able to use that to get noticed and pay others to design your site for you.

I have just picked up catteries*org, while it is not a .com it fits the extension well.

You have to think about what it will look like to visitors.

Hostgator hosting was a good recommendation.

Personally, I'll never buy and host a domain in the same place. I believe its important not to.

    For SEO, not at all.

The only real issue there is that if someone else owns the .com version, there's the risk that at some future point you may lose a little traffic to them, as some people remember ".com" more easily than ".org" and may type the wrong one into their browsers if looking for you.

If at some future point the .com is ever for sale, you might perhaps want to register it and just redirect it to your domain (no hosting required for it, if you do that).

Why would it matter for other things?
The more I know now the better.

Guys, I really appreciate all the quick responses, made me feel much more at ease. I bet everyone gets nervous the first time they do things..

At this point and time, since this is my first domain, should I be paying on a monthly basis? It's not that big of a difference but will I have to go back to their site each month to rerent my domain? Or whatever term you would use for that?

With Hostgator, you'll get quite a decent discount if you pay for the year in advance. And you can trust them still to be there a year later, so there's no downside, really.

If you decide to pay monthly, it will go through automatically on your credit-card each month, I think, without you needing to do anything.

            Ok, now I have a real problem....
Market Samurai is showing me that a specific domain name with "org" at the end is available.
Obviously I chose to buy it as it is 100% compliant with my keywords.
I click the bu button and go to hostgator, then after pasting the name there it tellsme the domain name is not available....???????
Any clues anyone? this is such a pain in the rear end....problems before I even get started.

Did you go looking before at hostgator for the site? If so they sometimes will keep the name locked for a possible auction. I've seen that at Network Solutions. Just go to GoDaddy or Cheapnames and see if the site is available.

    A tip I picked up from a guy who owns 10x times as many domains as I do taught me this trick;

    1) Get your domain (.org .com .net) etc from one source (GoDaddy)
    2) Get your hosting from a DIFFERENT source (Bluehost, Hostgator)

Reason being; if you ever need to move or redirect or modify your named servers or hosting shop, its a lot easier and faster if your Registrar and Hosting Co. are from two different sources.

Personally, I buy my domains from GoDaddy and Host my sites w/ Bluehost.

I use Bluehost mostly due to their 24/7 live support AND because Frank Kern uses Bluehost to run his Good Karma List Machine, which you might want to connect with to learn how to build YOUR list.
