Somehow I have gotten a Search Engine that I do not want. The Logo is a magnifying glass in front of a picture of a half gear. I know that is not much to go on but there is no name on this logo. Does anyone know what company this is, as I want to delete it off my computer. It takes the place of the Google search engine and it is very poor.

If you press CTRL and PrtSc you'll get a screenshot of your screen that you can post.

I have found out that Somoto is the name of the company. It gives instructions to change the homepage. It says to go to the toolbar menu and select options but that does not come up in Firefox

You just installed something that hijacked your default search engine. What was it you just downloaded or installed.

From a free game site maybe?

There should be an option to remove the toolbar from your view and another one to delete it completely. I don't use Firefox so I'm not completely sure where the different menus are.

Put your cursor next just under the page title bar and right click. You'll get a list of the toolbars.

I think the Softonic-Eng7 Toolbar is the one I need to remove, but I don't know how.

Do you have a PC with Windows? It may seem extreme, but you can restore your system to an earlier time. Just go back a few days. Once I downloaded a skin ( or whatever it was) for Firefox that nearly took over my computer. This was the only way I could get rid of it. In all fairness, it wasn't Mozilla's fault since it was on a third party site. Lesson learned.

I used System Restore to set things right. Had to go back two weeks, didn't think it had been that long. As long as it is fixed now.

somoto.com - is a hijacker. If you have set a specific homepage for your browser, it will open as a second tab.

This bl00dy hijacker is installed under SPLITCAM TOOLBAR or GV DOWNLOADER. If you find these sheety software in your system just remove them.

Then you have to startup your system and up comes up a webpage confirming they have been removed and asking why you uninstalled. I went to the code of that page and got the address to where this information is sent; however when you send an email to that address indicating the company is sheet for installing hijackers, the email is returned as unknown email.

Have you tried the TDSSkiller yet? It's a free download from Kapersky (free trial anyhow). Run that and it should take the thing off your computer. If it doesn't, hit it with Sophos (also free). Then scan your computer with stuff it might have downloaded on your machine - run Avast and run Malwarebytes.

The problems with these types of things now is that they come with programs that lodge in your registry and download other things, and some are also keyloggers so everything you type is recorded (got IDs?) They also can take over your machine and send things via your machine whether you're using it or not. If your anti-virus program even detects them, they usually can't take them off. My AVAST told me it had cleaned my computer - and it did get what the trojan downloaded, but I had to get the TDSSkiller to get the rootkit off.
