The Dating Niche Is Way Overpopulated, So...

what ideas do you have for anyone wanting to
start a site in the area of Relationships/Love?

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!

I had a thought that there could be a new twist
on Dating for mobile phone user's; every mobile
has a chip in that gives the location of the phone
in "real time", and I thought that a site that
suggests dates on an interest and proximity basis
could be a good idea?

But lets hear your ideas for Relationships/Love
sites, I am sure yours will be better than that!

:-)

Cheers,
#dating #niche #overpopulated

Great idea but unfortunately lots of people (myself included) had this idea already and implemented it in iPhones with GPS. The most successful version is Grindr for the gay community.

I don't think it works as well for heterosexuals as there are a lot more variables such as the ratio of guys-to-girls who would use the service... and there would probably be a lot of old creepy men too.

How do you feel about the occult?

Thanks to the surge of occult-themed fiction and movies directed at teens over the last decade, we've got a whole generation of love-hungry teens and twenties who think that maybe, just maybe, the answer to true romantic happiness lies in the realm of the magical.

Do some keyword searching on things like love spells. Love astrology/zodiac/specific signs. Astrology love matches and sign compatibility. Love tarot. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Wide open, huge demand, and the people at the top of the food chain are doing a half assed job.

And the ones who aren't doing a "half a$$ed job" are doing a disservice to everyone they sucker in.

I would recommend doing something ethical.

        I find your post offensive.

Are you saying we COULD be sticking to the ethical side of the line by selling ways to cash in with super fast, high profit WSO's?

What do you think is the % of people who are avid astrology readers, who get something positive out of it they can apply to their daily lives...vs the % of people seeking ways to profit quick online who succeed in doing that?

Listen, we're all selling dreams. The people who buy in the magical/occult market are passionate fans. Some are true believers, most aren't. And they're looking for love and happiness just like every other schmuck out there. They just want theirs dressed up in a little fantasy.

If you can help them find those things, while allowing them to have some fun, enjoying your work, and turning a tidy profit all at the same time, you are in no way, no how being unethical.

At the very least, you're causing less harm than the get rich quick, get thin quick, seduce the hottie at the end of the bar, live forever type shysters that make up 95% of the marketplace.

In these super competitive markets, I think you've got to differentiate somehow from the rest with a strong USP, if you want to make serious money.

Patti Stanger in the US, and Susie Ambrose here in the UK managed to differentiate very well with their services:

          http://www.millionairesclub123.com/

Seventy Thirty : Exclusive matchmaking and partner headhunting company : Home

They both position themselves in the market extremely well, targeting affluent people and charging very high fees.

Actually, you would be causing them more harm than just about anything else. The difference is that I'm selling dreams that actually have come true for many people. You brought up the occult, and I responded. As you can see, we each touched a nerve, which is why religious and political posts are not allowed.

However, comparing the occult to my specific WSO (which you were) makes it an unnecessary personal attack. I wasn't going after you personally, but rather the entire business of something that I find offensive.

Let's say we call it a draw? It really wasn't meant to be personal.

    Ideas...

I'd take the plentyoffish business model (free dating site) , use phone numbers for verification (like facebook does - reducing spam accounts) and the GPS info to replace zip codes for location. Wouldn't give away exact locations (leads to stalking) but a user wold know that hotchick99 is within 3 miles of their location.

    Something like that.

    My early morning bright idea.

What they wouldn't know is that hotchick99 is a forty year old man with a beer belly and a week's worth of stubble...

Here's an idea for the OP...

Dating Niche for seniors. Everyone wants to focus on the twenty-somethings. There are a lot of older folks who find themselves single again after many years, either by death of a partner or divorce.

And many of them have more money than the young'uns.

Find a way to help them hook up, and you might be sitting on a pile of golden (age) eggs...

Cool idea. Baby boomers are the biggest demographic market on the planet. They have money, they know how to spend it they grew up with technology and they do not want to believe they are ever going to get old.

        Sounds pretty evergreen to me.

Lol, I can see this scenario being in a movie like JACK-A$$...
A person in New York city gets a text saying that "Hotchick" is within a mile of your location, then they all go hunting trying to find the lucky lady... They ask everyone on the street if they are a hot chick (including senior women) untl they get arested.

I remember 8 years ago when a well-known marketer told me to stay out of the dating niche because it was too competitive. After doing some initial market research I realized that even though he was right, I knew I could do better than 95% of the competition by simply offering a better product mix and getting targeted traffic while list-building.

    I'm glad I didn't listen.

Regarding catering to the relationship niche, all you have to do is find your voice, your unique selling proposition, provide immense value, get traffic, convert that traffic, build a list (of course), and you'll do just fine. Keep in mind that every year there are new successful entrants to some of the most competitive niches such as weight loss, personal development, dating, relationships, weddings (planning), etc. because they know how to get traffic and convert it.

When those dating sites go live, I'm going to create the "How To Turn Off GPS On Your Phone To Eliminate Creepy Guys Finding You" Guide.

Only $97 on Clickbank and I'll offer the 75% Commission to affiliates. We will make some serious money....

While that is all said in a joking manner, if it were my daughter, or a female friend, I would be informing them to turn off GPS if they were going to use your sites, and only enable it when they had a real need.

The Dating Niche Is Way Overpopulated, So...

    Garbage.

I could find you at least 10 keywords in the next 5 minutes that attract at least X,XXX exact searches per month with little or no competition, that you could rank first page for in less than a month.

There are a LOT more opportunities than you think.

        What I meant was....

If ever you find yourself sitting around a table with mates saying "I think this could work..." OR "Ive got a good idea for a website..."

Stop, and ask one of your mates to kindly slap you across the face with a wet fish.

I wasted YEARS with this mindset. YEARS!!!!

The best advice I ever got was ....

GIVE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT, AND YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU WANT. ie - find the demand FIRST, then deliver the product.

        Its common knowledge around here.

I am in need of some slappin then and plead guilty as charged, as i want to work on some variants and walk a little different to most, but at the same time retain the second and important message of giving people what they want, not sure i have the mix right but if i end up like the fisherman's friend ad then at worst i knew it was coming.

I agree with you. I still think there are ample opportunities to make money in this niche if you have the right keywords and the right USP as Rod was pointing out.

That USP could be tailored to fit one of the sub-niches within the dating/relationship niche which is where I believe the real income can be generated.

I made a simple WP site and added some neat plugins and Wishlist member and made a local type dating site. It is going to be release on January first through our local radio, newspaper and of course facebook. If you follow my thoughts by looking over the site, you'll see there is a huge opportunity to capture local business advertising who may also be interested in your SEO services and more. See my signature. I actually did the same thing with a simple "Online Garage Sale" thing without a membership option.

The reason you people find the dating/relationships niche so hard to penetrate is you all do the exact same thing, set-up a blog and then waste your time and money trying to fight everybody else in that market for Google rankings, when instead, you should be focused on branding.

Eben Pagan did not become successful making his business dependent on the whims of Google or any other search engine, he actually marketed and promoted himself. You would be hard pressed to find a dating section in any magazine aimed at men that doesn't have a dating tips section featuring him or references to Double Your Dating.

I agree that you need to look for a USP. Think of senior dating, as another poster commented. I know there are affiliate programs for Latino dating, Asian dating etc. What about the telly show Cougar Town - if they make a successful telly show on something, there's obviously interest in it.

Is Cougar Dating a profitable niche? I'm not sure I'd want to mess with that topic. I think the Asian dating market is a good niche and senior dating has always been profitable and growing every year.

Don't know, Tim, I'm not in the dating niche, I just tossed it out there, but I've just googled "cougar dating affiliate programs" and there's a few there, also had a look on Offervault and there's a program offering $22 per lead. Might be a few bob in it.

Maybe the telly show makes that topic appear a bit sordid, I don't know, haven't watched it, but I guess there are people who prefer a partner who is older/younger and would like a specific dating site, just as others prefer a partner who is Asian.

Maybe the telly show makes that topic appear a bit sordid, I don't know, haven't watched it, but I guess there are people who prefer a partner who is older/younger and would like a specific dating site, just as others prefer a partner who is Asian.
Definately looks like there is potential there and you can't beat a $22 payout. I have a domain "FridayNightSingles.com" that I've been meaning to use for a dating site......perhaps I'll add this in as one of my future projects.

    Here's my shameless plug...

I am in the anti dating niche. I figure there are plenty of people who have been screwed in one way or another by a person they've dated at some point. So I decided to play off of that, plus the domain name I got is just plain cool.

As for the dating niche being saturated? I don't believe so, I just think to be successful one needs to come up with something that is unique and brand it effectively.
