i have been having problems getting my FileZilla to do much of anything. Can Someone critique my process to ensure i havn't missed a step?

-Have Hosting/Domain
-Have site with content
-http://filezilla-project.org/ and download FileZilla Client

did i miss anything? every youtube video i see looks different from the FileZilla portals I have on my screen or when i connect i don't see what this guy sees at 1:38

FileZilla is proving a nightmare for me thus far

    On 1:38 it's his Desktop.

You can see that it's written above. What exactly do you want to know, be more specific and I'll try to help.

I'm not sure what the problem is you are experiencing? You will need to input your FTP details into FileZilla before connecting to your server. This comprises of Host, Username, and Password. Once you've done that you will be able to view your website folders and files.

ok what i did was added my site URL. then added new UN/PW. then connected. it would connect just fine.

      1. on the right side of Filezilla where you drag the file to i only have 2 folders vice the many other's have in video tutorials. not sure if this is because they've added a lot to there FileZilla or not.

      2. anytime i try to drag a file: like for instance yesterday I tried to upload my header which was a name.jpg file it said something like error, could not upload file on the top status bar (i'm not on the computer with FileZilla so i can't tell exactly what it said).

      3. at around 3:00 he leaves "PORT" blank. i saw another video where the guy put i believe the #19 or #23 there. which is it? also following the instruction in this video once i hit connect it told be error occured and it couldn't connect

I'm not sure what issues you're having, but I can tell you on my machine that I leave the "port" field blank, and I believe that will make it default to port 21, which is what should work. What are you presently using for the port?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you upload jpegs via Filezilla. You can just use WP Media and upload your photos from there.

        No?

You are failing to login, which means either you have the wrong uname or pword or host name.

            1. Check your caps lock key.
            2. Make sure you are using the correct username and password combination which may be (in all likelihood is) different than your hosting account credentials.

Where are you hosting your site?

Based on the screen shot, it looks like you have not changed the default www.yourdomain.com to YOUR ACTUAL domain name.

PM me if you need more help.

It does sound like you're using the wrong username or password.

Your Host is your ftp.domain.tld, so if your domain is www.mydomainname.com, then your host is ftp.mydomain.com Do NOT put in the "www" part.

Your username and password should be the same password of your webhost. If Hostgator is the webhost, then use the same username and password that you use to get into your cPanel.

You do not use the username/password of your blog (if you're using Wordpress)

And, again, you do not need to upload jpeg file using Filezilla. If you're using Wordpress, you can upload your photos from your computer in their Media Library.

Has Filezilla upgraded or changed something.
Everytime I try to use Filezilla I don't see the usual files to be used:
                public_ftp
                public_html

I took a shot of what shows in the other side of the Filezilla window.
This is why I just use cpanel's File Manager to upload files in my website now.

I recently uploaded some scripts like linkevo and backlink energizer in my other subdomains hosted in the same account. Also, set up some cron jobs.
Is this normal or is there something wrong with my sites that's why my Filezilla is like this?

I don't show the files I need for every one of my domains, but they are there under my main one.
When I click on my main domain name, my add-on domains are listed under that. Click on the add-on domain and you should see the regular files in there.

I seriously doubt your username is admin. You're trying to login as admin on Hostgator. Not going to work.

It's port 21 in most cases.

Basically you should drag and drop from the left side of Filezilla (your desktop) to the right side of Filezilla (your server).

You should have ftp.domain.com for the host (use your domain name).
Server type: FTP - File Transfer Protocol.
Login type: Normal and enter your username and password, then hit connect.

That should get you connected. Once on your host, you should see a directory list... select www or public_html and browse to the location of the file your want to replace.

I use port 21 in File zilla. When that is not available I use port 22 because this is for SFTP. That means secure FTP, or Secure File Transfer Protocol is the long name.

Please post a mini movie on you tube of what you are doing and the errors you are getting so we can help you more.
