I don't see Amazon as a big money maker (for me) but... I figure, since they sell practically everything, we may as well link to them with an affiliate link if I have a special interest in something they sell and I can provide value for my readers.

It's never too late to start... for instance, I know that I would like, and I have several friends that would like to get a copy of Black Ops for XBOX. But, for one reason or another (money, just busy, whatever) we haven't gotten to it yet. These items on the lists are still way more popular than everything else, even if Christmas is over. Remember, this list was compiled over an entire year, not just the holidays.

The top selling products are usually very competitive and difficult to rank for. I prefer to promote the lesser known but high end products offline. Much better returns without all the work trying to get traffic.

Thanks for the list. The challenge is always to get your foot in the door with these products and not use the copyrighted product name as your domain name. Isnt it?

Great post.. lists like these can be very helpful for seeing the trending in online sales... Although I don't love Amazon either, but I'm sure these products are selling other places too.. I've always loved pulse as another great way to see trends in what is selling at any moment in time..

@myob In regards to competition, yes, if you're trying to rank on these, it can be tough. But let's say you have a site that already has a good amount of traffic. You can put these up as "related" products and do quite well.

Ya Jan I guess that is my toughest hurdle with Amazon is finding the hidden gems over $100. The lists in the OP are great but they are bound to be hard to rank for due to the competition.

Finding the balance of high priced product well reviewed product, and low competition has proven to be an exhausting task.

I would think that a winning strategy would be to rank on products that are easier to rank with, and then have "related products" that include the best sellers, since visitors to your page are likewise a little more likely to purchase products in high demand. What do you think?

I actually prefer to avoid big-name products. It is too much competition. In the time you rank well for one major product, you could have ranked for ten niche ones.

Look... I'm going to be short, simple and to the point.

I've been using Amazon Affiliates, have had decent success with them too. Here is my advice for newbies who are trying to begin with this program. Don't pick a competitive product for your first few to promote. You will easily lose considering you'll be playing against people who aren't fresh meat.

Good list but I think most of those items are lower priced with low commissions. Still though it's certainly a good place to start and you often make sales for other items along the way even when you promote lower priced items.

I find creating a squidoo lens with a mix of high and low priced items in the same category is a good test to see what's going to convert. Amazon hasn't been a big money maker for me, but it has been consistent.

  I have had some success with Amazon but I go for model numbers on the electronics as these are seldom copyrighted so it can be a cheap option to get a domain name based on the number/letter combo and after that they seem to get indexed pretty quickly.
