List building for 2011...

For 2011 I'm focusing my efforts on nothing more than list building. I always hear people say "the money is in the list", well...now I'm finally building mine. After over a year of hard work online with little to show for it, I'm finally taking Timothy Ferriss' advice and I'm outsourcing the whole flipping thing.

I have a decent landing page that converts. I also have a 50 week auto responder message set up with Aweber. I have a pretty good give away. Here's my plan of attack.

Currently I've purchased solo ads from a couple people here on the forum and built my list to 265 subscribers. I'll continue that until I have 1,000 subscribers. Then I'll blast out a good affiliate product. With the commissions I'll buy more solo ads.

I'll continue to exhaust my resources here on the forum with solo ads. Then I'll do the same with the Ezine Directory. By the end of the year, I should have a subscriber list of over 10,000.

Simply put, I don't want to quit my $60,000 a year job. I simply cannot afford it. Yet I long for an internet empire. So I'll just fund my internet dream until it becomes a reality. Once I build a decent list, I can put a product together in detail describing how I did it and sell it for like $17. Then the real fun begins.

By the end of 2011 I'll have over 10,000 subscribers and a product of my own to sell. All without quitting my day job. It's doable.

Any rebuttals? I welcome your thoughts.

Peace and Happy New Year.

Great plan! the only thing i recommend is to keep in mind the relationship with your list..you dont want to build it to 1,000 and then blast them with an affiliate link right away

build the relationship, share helpful videos, articles, tips and tricks show them you truly care for their success

and what are solo ads? would like to get me some..always looking for ways to build my list

If I may. a solo ad is basically when you go to somebody who already has a list, and pay them to send out an email of yours to their list.

Also, may I suggest that once you get a pretty good list side, you can start doing ad swaps with people in this forum. That'll be a good way to build your list as well

To be fair, I ordered from Paul and Holly Sutton. I am very happy with the results from both mailings. I'd highly recommend both of them.

As I mentioned I'll be exhausting the resources here in the forum and I'll be happy to keep you updated if you'd like.

Just make a note that the results depend on YOU, not them. Have a good attention getting headline for the email, good sales copy in the email, a good freebie to offer and a landing page that converts. The onus is on you, not them.

If you check out Paul's new site I think I'm his first testimonial there. I'm the dude with the sunglasses at the beach.

As I'm writing this something just hit me. I'm going to fund my internet lifestyle dream for a measly $100 a month (that's what I'll be paying on average per month for the solo ads). Why didn't I do this years ago?

      Happy New Year folks,

      Shane

10K subscribers with average conversion on 2% will give you about 200 sales.

You have a plan which is alot more than a lot of people have. That is a really good thing.

When you have a plan, you cna always change it is something comes up, but if you have no plan, you have no idea what caused it when something goes wrong. but even worse, you have no idea what caused it when something goes right.

Some really good ideas on listbuilding right in this thread. Thanks for getting it started.

I'm there with you. I am at the point in my internet marketing where a little later on this year I will be creating my own product this year and will need a list to start promoting to !

    Shane,

Interesting post. I will be focusing on building a list also this year and your plan should help me structure my own plan for 2011.

I will be looking into the solo ad method you mentioned in your post. I have not done that as yet.

Are you using any other methods like Twitter etc?

    Best of luck for 2011.

    Dave

    Hey Shane,

Here is an idea to help recoup some of your investment.

I used solo ads to quickly build my list also and this helped me.

Come up with a really great $7-$17 OTO to offer subscribers after they sign up.

If you make it very enticing you should convert 3% of your opt-ins fairly easily.

If you are using a $17 OTO this would result in earnings of $51 per 100 subs . . .

Using this method will help build your list fast while adding back to the solo ad fund quickly.

    Good Luck

  • I looked at your blog, it looks and reads really well. But one thing which struck me was that you only use one optin form on the page to gain new subscribers.

On your posts you have the comments option which will gain more subscribers but on your index you could be missing out by keeping your optin form so low key and not adding more ways to subscribe.

Good point. However, that's not the site I use for building my list. I use another one. That's a blog site I use to promote stuff and talk about work at home dad related niches. But again, good points you bring up.

      Peace,

      Shane

Sounds like a good solid plan, I too am having to face this.. I've never been interested in a list building because in the past it was always presented like you had to massage the people in the list constantly.(At least to me it sounded that way. </disclaimer> so I don't get nasty PM's)

After being on WF for awhile now I see that isn't so. I can see the value in such a list only by providing value to the list subscriber.

        Excellent post!

Why wait until you get to 1000? If you've cultivated a good relationship with the people you got so far, promote something sooner. If you've really delivered and been super awesome, and you got yourself a good quality list, you could make a decent amount even if its a few 100.
