What's the purpose of social bookmarking?

Like many warriors, I social bookmark each of my blog posts to about 10 sites. However, I never get traffic from the bookmark sites, and nearly all of the backlinks are nofollow. So what benefit does social bookmarking bring?

(Of course, I realize that I am not participating on the bookmark sites in any way.)

    The nofollow attribute is in a lot of dispute and nobody (unless you worked at Google) knows how much weight those links can give you.

    SB as a way of getting traffic has kind of been superseded by Facebook like and share and stuff like that, but it doesn't mean that yu can't get some benefit out of the links if you don't spen dtoo much time getting them.

    If you are doing them manually, your time might be better spent on a differetn way of getting links. No offense intended, it just takes a long time to log in to each SB site and make the bookmarks unless you have this automated in some way.
