Double Check Your Privacy Settings in WordPress AGAIN

Hey Warriors!

I just set up 13 new blogs and accidentally clicked on privacy. Turns out they're defaulting again back to being blocked for search engines!

For awhile, they defaulted to be open...

Go check yours just to be sure if you didn't upon setup.

    Which version do you have?

I just installed WP 3.0.4 on 2 new sites and it seems the default is to have your site visible to search engines.

I have set up 3 in the past 2 days and each of them defaulted to block search engines. But they did give a little message up at the top of the dashboard right next to the blog name.

I was expecting them to be defaulted to open but they were not.

        Thank you Tiffany.

I just had a WP theme do this to me. It defaulted to disallow search engines to find me. I always throw up a Robots.txt to disallow when setting up a site so that engines don't find me lookin' like a mess. My question now is will a Robots.txt allowing search engines to crawl override the WP privacy setting of not allowing search engines in?

Yep, I saw the same thing earlier today when shooting a WP video tutorial. I don't know why it would ever switch from one to the other, but it's one more thing to add to the "make sure to check this" list. Sigh.

When I install WP, it asks if I want to have it blocked by Search Engines.

I didn't set up any new blogs today but the ones where
    we auto-updated defaulted to

I would like my site to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Bing, Technorati) and archivers

Maybe so, or maybe the host. I don't really know. But it sure is strange.

I agree with Zeus, it is another thing to need to check and a big sigh. the first time I had that happen , it took me 3 weeks before I figured out why my site was not indexed. <BIG SIGH>

I had one site up for 3 months before I realized it. LOL! It was the first time I'd heard of that setting. I thought it was ridiculous to even have it. But since then, I'm diligent about checking.

Okay, I just checked and they're all fine.

Is this something you're supposed to check with every update? I dont' mind checking on a fresh install, though wp always asks anyway, but if I have to check it every time wp updates? YUK!
