Hello Warriors.

If any of you have been using Aweber for the past
few months then I'm sure you've noticed the BIG
problem with your account.

... Hundreds of bounces on each send!

This is NOT good.

These bounces are UNsubscribed from your list.

I personally have lost over 2500 responsive subscribers
from my list in the past 30 days alone.

Not too mention a very noticeable loss in monthly
revenue and profits.

If I didn't have over 70,000 subscribers on my list
I would be in BIG trouble. I can't imagine how this
is affecting those marketers with smaller lists.

So I'm actually thinking of moving my list back to
my AutoResponsePlus software and run the list
from my server.

Will delivery be as good as Aweber??

Well, if I'm losing over 100 subscribers per mailing
due to bounces, then I would think delivery is
not an issue.

Any thoughts?

Talk soon,
Gary

    Gary,

You should ask their customer service people what's going on. I haven't had this problem, so it may be specific to your list.

I'm reading a copywriting book that had a chapter on email marketing.

And it was saying that that these days spam isn't just someone blasting unwanted messages at you.

Some People are hitting the spam button because they're tired of seeing your email altogether. It might have been useful for them before, but it no longer is now and they consider it spam.

So that could be another reason for the bounces and unsubscribes.

You could try to segment your list and tailor your messages to your audience.

      Keep is friendly and personal.

For example, I sold a couple products for this one marketer. She later sent me an email saying, "Hey, I noticed you sold two of my products. Good job. I wanted to thank you personally."

I think the more you connect with your readers, the more likely they'll stick around.

Huh? How is a bounced address Aweber's fault? Or are you complaining about the fact that they remove bounced addresses from your lists?

Personally, I'd rather have clean lists, but to each his own I guess.

Although, on reflection, a bounce could simply be a glitch in the matrix, so to speak. I would think that it would take more than once bounce to warrant removal.

Like Paul, though, I haven't had that problem.

I've always seen the occasional bounce - it's normal since addresses do bounce. If you kept mailing to that address other problems arise.

How can you expect 70k addys to stay up and running? If 100 out of 70k bounce that's a small amount and i'd say it's normal just through attrition.

I asked Aweber about this issue a while back, and they responded that in the past the bounces weren't being treated properly and now they are. I did notice a big jump in the number of bounces but haven't noticed a big change in the number of opened emails or in revenue.

Have you contacted Aweber and told them it is affecting your sales? They usually respond quickly to issues like this.

I did have an albeit brief problem, a month or maybe even two ago, where I was getting a huge amount of bounces more than normal.

I spoke to Aweber who said it was a problem they were dealing with. They were very apologetic. My concern was I'd be penalised for having so many bounces all of a sudden.

They certainly didn't remove those subscribers from my list, nothing bad came from it for me and it's been fine for sometime now.

Steve Johnson - Huh? How is a bounced address Aweber's fault? Or are you complaining about the fact that they remove bounced addresses from your lists?
With me it was their fault, they said so. On one of my lists with around 3000 subscribers, I'd regularly get 2 or 3 bounces. Then for about 3 broadcasts it went to between 100-150, then returned to normal. No subscribers were removed.

It was just a glitch and as Paul said something the OP would be better off talking to Aweber about.

Gotcha - so with this issue, a 'bounce' isn't truly a legit 'bounce'. It appears I need to pay a little more attention to my stats

It's only happened on those 3 broadcats but happen it did I've certainly kept an eye out since then.

Like I said though, it's the only time I've seen it, I thinks it's just one of those anomalys that happens to some people, sometimes. To be honest I used it as an excuse, frowned on that this may be, to resend the broadcasts. I actually did surprisingly better the second time round :rolleyes:

I just switched from Aweber for a number of reasons . . .

They are a great company but I chose to move on.

I switched to Imnica (Imnica Mail) they had a great WSO going at unbelievable rates. Plus, no reconfirmation with list import (as long as you have IP address). They allow so much more customization and are a lot more lenient than Aweber . . .

    Just my 2 cents

Aweber told me straight up it was an issue on
    their end.

I'm not the only marketer having these same issues.

      Gary,
Aweber told me straight up it was an issue on their end.
Then I suspect they will fix it.
I'm not the only marketer having these same issues.
And, from what's been said in this thread, there are plenty of others who aren't having the problem. Which is at odds with the assertion you made in your initial post, suggesting that it's something we would all be dealing with.

I have to admit the only reason I mentioned what happened to me was because this was the first time I'd seen this happen outside my little world.

Today, as far as I remember, is the first time I've seen this happen to anyone else. The way Aweber were so nice to me suggested I was a one off.

I've never seen it brought up here or anywhere else before.

Then I suspect they will fix it.
        Yup, they did with me.

To be honest, OP, thats all I think it is..a one off.

yeah I've got a thought - ditch aweber and invest in Interspire Email Marketer and an smtp.com account. You'll save a TON of money and you will have more control over how your list and bounces are handled. Deliverability is just as good as with any other email marketing solution in my experience.

People have so many free accounts choices, and change their accounts a lot, I already notice because my readers sent me emails directly to let me know their change the address from one holder to another and they want I make the change on the system.

Almost every week I receive this kind of messages, so I already think that all bounces are for this reason mainly.

I'm not 100% sure on how Aweber handles bounces, but the general rule is as follows...

1 x hard bounce, remove from list.
3 x soft bounces, remove from list.

A hard bounce is something like address does not exist.

A soft bounce is something like mailbox full.

There are instances where companies like Hotmail will suddenly hard bounce ALL email to their servers. They are the biggest culprit, but, most of them have this from time to time.

Not much us ESP's can do but keep an eye out for this, and do our best to fix it when it happens.

So, can't believe I am going to say this about my biggest competitor, but, cut Aweber some slack on this one.

Over what period? The usual is a week, I believe.

Hotmail's DSNs lie all the time. When they send them at all. I don't know if they're still doing it, but they just dropped mail into the bitbucket for ages when it tripped their notoriously inaccurate spam filters.
