How Does the Popularity of Affiliate Marketing Affect Our Business?

I was just thinking the other day, how does the world wide acceptance and growing popularity of affiliate marketing affect our businesses? I mean think about it, with all of the products that cater to people looking to make an easy buck online it makes everyone aware that the seller is making a commission for a product.

So just say that someone was browsing the Internet and came upon your website. You have a product in which you receive a commission for but because of the world nowadays becoming more and more aware of affiliate marketing instead of purchasing your product, they instead search for an affiliate marketing program to buy from themselves.

Thoughts?

I think it matters very little. Outside of the make money market
the vast majority of people online are looking for products/solutions,
not business opportunities. I doubt very much that a large percentage
of internet users are even aware of affiliate programs.

Pelvis, I think the bananas in that sandwich have turned...

Even in the MMO niches, Clickbank is about the only place that makes it really easy to buy through one's own affiliate link. And they, while they can't really stop it without revamping their system, have taken steps to make the idea less attractive for those simply seeking a big discount.

Most of the other affiliate programs I've used are either too much hassle for a single purchase or flat-out forbid (and usually block) affiliate sales to yourself.

Out in the wide world, even if people are aware of affiliate marketing, they're more likely to just strip your affiliate link so you don't make money off their purchase than they are to try getting the commission for themselves.

Most people, though, just don't give a rip. They have an itch and they want it scratched...

Stop worrying about it and start promoting something where everyone is not in IM.

Like John says, many of the other programs in the world do not let you buy through your own link.

You know more thatn most of the other peoplin teh world about how affiliate marketing works.

You don't really think that all those people watching Oprah and loggin onto the website she tells them to, really understand she is sending them to her affiliate link?
