Want to see the power of posting on the warrior forum as far as search engine placement goes?

I started this thread:

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...tutorials.html

About 20 minutes later, it had a number 1 listing on Google for "GTD Tutorials".

gtd tutorials - Google Search

It may not be now, but it did when I posted this.

Well search for "gtd tutorials" and you'll see only 78 results and since your topic contains "gtd tutorials" both in the address and the content, it is pretty normal that it is #1

But yeah WF gets crawled a lot.

We must have different Google results. With quotes I get 361 results and without I get 286,000 results. But that is normal for Google.

      Oh well.

You have not been marketing online for more than 2 weeks, let alone 10 years.

Yep, I get 281,000 results for the search without quotes, and it's still No. 1 !!!

Holy **** , just found out I'm ranking number one for some of my keyphrases through the WF as well. Alright, they're fairly long tail, but still....

        Power to the WF !

          Tim, try this http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="gtd+tutorials"&btnG=Search

%99 of those 281k results are useless. You'll see that the link I've written has only 27~ results (just try to move to page 4). Out of those 27 results, WF link is the only page that has "gtd tutorials" in both URL and content.

If your site contains the search phrase both in the address and the content, it is going to be listed before the ones that doesn't have it on address or content. That is SEO 101.

Have a look at the G result page I've send and you'll see that WF is the only one that has it on title, address and content. That is why it is #1.

But as I said, yes WF gets crawled a lot, I'm sure it has more than 4-5 crawlers atm crawling the forum.

You make some good points. Let's try an experiment. Create a page that will out rank the one I posted using any methods you want.

            You have 30 minutes.

            Post your results here.

Alican, of course I understand the basics of SEO101, but thanks for reminding me anyway!

Sounds like you have a real good grasp of SEO and the different factors affecting ranking so I'm sure your input will be of benefit to many members on the forum.

I was probably more interested in the speed at which Google indexes and ranks the WF post, when I checked it had indexed one of the posts from this thread just 12 minutes ago!

            Cheers.

Even if it's a low competition keyword phrase, still shows how quickly the GoogleBot picks things up off here.

You are currently out of topic. What I'm saying is, if there were a few other pages that were indexed before and contained the keyword both in topic, url and content, you wouldn't be ranking #1 this fast. Google compares a lot of things, life of the page, backlinks, content, url, keyword density etc. You need to do the experiment yourself since I already know a lot about Google and SEO.

    Good luck

If you don't want to take me up on my challenge.. No problem. All I was doing was showing the power of a fast moving forum.

Actually you can add a lot to this thread. Since you know a lot about Google and SEO, can you please post some hints and tips on how to dominate the search engine results?

Thanks for the reality check Jay.

Seems this thread took a real downer, strange how that happens sometimes.

I think it's great that the Googlebot finds things so quickly on here. I haven't tried yet but I am still new to WF and have yet to post a blog. This is along the same topic, dealing with SEO. but isn't necessarily relevant to the Warrior Forum. I recently switched my browser to Opera and joined the MyOpera social community and every single one of my blogs appears on the first page of Google for several keywords (they allow you to input as many keywords as you like) about a day or so after posting. There is also a built in traffic tracker to see how many hits you are getting, where they are coming from geographically, and what search criteria they entered to find your page. I'm not trying to promote Opera on here (it's free anyway) or anything like that but it could be a nice way to get some extra exposure to your blogs.

    Tim,

This is all about the age of the site and update speed of the site. When a site first comes online, bots start to visit the site but as we all know, this is slow. It comes, crawls a few pages if not all and leaves the site. After a few hours or sometimes a day or a few depending on the weight on crawlers, it comes again and checks if content has been updated.

Since we are on a very active forum and an active forum which is online for quite a lot of time, crawlers love it and they surely spend a lot of time on it too.

Just think yourself as a crawler. This is what the people who created crawlers do. They give every single site a chance, a chance to prove that it is being updated. Even if you don't update your website at the beginning, crawlers won't ignore your site, they will keep visiting it but it won't be like they visit a site which gets updated every day or every second like this forum.

Lets say you created a website, didn't touch the content for a good time. Then you decided to add content on daily basis. Google will see that it has been updated since its last visit and mark it as updated. If when it comes again and sees that it has been updated again, crawlers will see it and it will effect their crawling times.

Forums are always being crawled more than any other site which has non-updated content because crawlers food is content. If you don't update the content, no need for them to crawl the same content over and over again, they just check if it has changed.

I hope this clears some points.
