What should be done differently in 2011?

Happy New Year!

On the first day of the new year I was wondering what ideas people had for how the new IM year should be approached, what should be done differently?

I class myself as a Newbie as I haven't made any money yet, despite having three sites set up, so I need the missing piece.

I need to workout what to do differently, and commit the time to making a go of it.

What changes will people be making to their strategies this year?

The main changes that I am going to make is that I am going to spend less time checking emails and stats and less time on Warrior forum and spend more time focused on the work that I need to do.

I am also going to have a plan and set small goals that I can work toward on the way to reaching my bigger goal.

I hope you have a great year Merlincat - good luck!

I think quality is getting more and more important and thats what I will focus on in 2011. Create good quality content and software that people need. Well I guess this has always been important but I think it will get more and more important since the web is so packed with information now. The competition will be fierce even on small niches so better get ready.

      Hi Merlincat,

Happy New Year 1 and all

      1. Never give up
      2. Those things you have been considering to try in the way of IM pick the best 3 in the way of cost + time with the best ROI, and like Nike saids just do it, and actually set your self realistic goals that can be met
      3. Look at what you did last year, and make now a more informed decision of what you now can improve or change now that you have a more greater understanding of what being a IM really entails
Good Luck in 2011, its never to late to bring a change of fortune by just simply taking a new approach.

What should be done in 2011 is lot of focus and dedication...we already have all the knowledge - only lack of focus and system for what we are doing.

        Hi Guys,

Some food for thought for this NewYear 2011.

Fail to PLAN your are planing to FAIL.

1st things 1st, take a look at systemising some of your common tasks:
        • emails
        • set up a Project Manager system in place
        • autoresponders
        • blog page updates
        • website updates
        • Face Book updates
Are just but a few. Try centralising all your email address, purchasing or emplemnting some type of PMS project managing system or platform in place such as MS Project Manger, Collabtive - open source solution, and the one I use now is a pade solution and has all the bells and whistels Basecamp HQ.

I have at one point or another used all of the above PMS at one time or another.

I can truly say with confidence that by just implementing the 1st 2 things 1: centralising your emails and 2: Project Manager system in place, you will create any where between 30% - 50% more time as well as increase your focus which will in turn give you a greater ROI.

I hope this helps a little, and goodluck for 2011.

Can you explain what you mean by Project Management System, because at the moment I think I would call it a pen and paper

I agree that making these jobs less time consuming would free up time for work that actually makes money.

            Hi Merlincat,

Pen and paper are cool, but it like anything that is web based, the sooner you have a system in place that is more accustomed to the field of work you are in the easier it can become to replicate or rinse and repeat.

The purpose of setting yourself up on some form of PMS other than a pen and paper, is that it is now in a form that can be quickly developed upon.
What I mean is that you can quite simply begin to a array of things and what this does is set the entrepreneurial juices following.

You will be able track your day to day activities, and put notes on each one that will be able to start getting to look at what you can do really well, and those things that are taking to much time or you just dont like doing them.

Within a very short period of time say 2-3 weeks into learning and beginning of using the PMS you are in place where you can do your own stats on yourself and what you are doing and take a all round good look at what needs to change 1st and foremost and begin to concentrate on what really needs to done and thats ROI.

You are able to begin to establish for your total business solution as well as individual projects the KPI score = Key Point Indicators on how and what you need to do to attaining short, medium and long term IM goals.

You in way begin set up and document your daily, weekly and month on month work annalist.

Also if you ever wish develop and outsource anything such as a support, development, sales staff etc it will help to make the transition extremely smooth and seamless as you will have a complete system in place, in the way of Templated and repeated every day work load and procedures as well as using as a mini CMS content management system, so that you can contact all staff and give out jobs and follow up on its progress all in 1 central place, it becomes your Total internal management system and it is scalable right from the get go, from being a small 1 man band to developing a robust user friendly hub for all your IM activities with everything able to be archived.

That is just a small pin prick to what you will be able to do with 1 simple PMS.

Just google the names I posted and you will be able find some of the many advantages that a simple PMS can bring to your business, seriously I am just scratching the service with all that can be implemented.

I'll be starting and focusing on a savings account. I hate that I spend money like a maniac and I need to stop being so "generous"...

Earn, invest, save, earn... invest... save

    My mantra for 2011.

Most of the time the "missing piece" that people need is traffic, especially targeted buying traffic, to your site(s). How to get that traffic depends on what methods you want to use, what skills you have and what you can afford to do.

The same little 5 letter word has occurred several times already - FOCUS -

I will treat this as a REAL business. Write myself a Business Plan. It won't be War and Peace, just a simple:

Who I am / my Unique Selling Point (or in IM terms, my NICHE)
What I am going to achieve
How I am going to do it

Then I will do a cashflow /financial statement.
How much I am going to invest in this (domain / hosting / autoresponder / advertising - and expected returns.

The BIGGY is - I MUST NOT just file it away - this is a working document and I will make changes as the business evolves.

      Regards
      Alison

I heard these comments from many other internet marketers, and I agree 100%. So my new thing for this year is action, I still have to watch all the webminars, read books and so on but I need to take action so i can apply everything I've learned.

It's easy, really. Travel more, do all kinds of crazy fun stuff, enjoy life and limit time spent in front of a computer.

If I have only 1 or 2 hours to get something done, you can bet your as$ I'm focused on the task.

And 2 hours of productive time can give the same result as spending the whole day in front of a computer doing 'something'. So why not do something fun and work less?

    Just my 2,000,000,000 cents...

    Chris

2010 was a year that we spent most of the year promoting our websites and it is the hardest job going if you do it properly and we will reap the rewards during 2011 also having to adapt too new promoting techiques. This is the 4 year that we have worked for ourselves and it just gets better every year i would say it was one of the best moves that we have made.

I would say Passion and Action. Most people aren't successful because they simply don't do anything or don't do it consistently enough. Once the sexy rubs off of a new course you buy are you going to go to the next shiny thing or hunker down and keep working it. If people want 2011 to be awesome they have to commit to being awesome. Basic marketing principles still apply. I would recommend building an authority niche based on your passion. Post your content on as many distribution networks as you can and stay at it consistently. Yea money won't come in right off the bat but you will be doing something you love and in 3-6 months amazing things will start to happen. In the meantime if you need cash find the low hanging fruit. Help local businesses and build sites for them or run their marketing.

Think and don't let (Guru's) do the thinking for you is the New Years Resolution I hope comes true for all.
