Buying a website what to look for?

INTERNET MARKETING

Ive had the worst luck this year. Ive hired about 4 web designers and they took forever to get me a mockup. Im tired of going through that. My question is. Im trying to build a soical net work website but its very costly to build it form scratch. Would it be cheaper to purchase a dating site that has all these fuctions for cheap and have a web designer redo the design. I dont know alot about websites so this will help me alot. Im just learning whats a web designer?
Persone who build the outer face of the website correct?
a Web developer build the fuctions and the database correct?
Will I save more money in doing that and then learning to SEO the website.

Sounds like you might need to learn the ropes of hiring a web designer. Many do both front end (the design that visitors see) and back end (the programming functionality), although sometimes two different people do it.

Building a web site and doing SEO are two different things. First you build the site, then you do enhancements to boost SEO.

Dating sites are relatively easy to build either as a CMS or from a script. They can be up and running in 7-10 days. You can PM me if you want details. However, they are not particularly cheap to do. You need to make an investment in the platform (site and hosting), content and in promoting the site.

A dating site can be made functional pretty quickly, the real issue is getting people to sign up. People are reluctant to sign up on a new dating site since there is no one there yet, and they don't want to be first. That's why it is good to buy an established site with people already signed up, then build that business. Buying established dating sites are usually not cheap, but they offer the platform and the initial clients, and that's important.

  Thanks, for the info, What im trying to do is buy a dating site becuase it has alot of the fuctions, chat, profiles, and built in marketing. I just wanted to know if I bought a cheap website with these functions can i have designer redbuild the the outer look of the website. Im not trying to start a dating site but I'm looking for a socail networking site that I can bring my clients on.

  I think the default answer would be to use a social networking script, which generally come in two flavours
  
  1) A script (framework) that gives you everything but requires you to put it all together, and will probably require a developer - an example is Elgg - Open Source Social Networking Engine.
  
  2) Or a platform like Social Networking Software Platform | Online Social Media | KickApps - KickApps that will give you drag and drop options to create a network yourself.
  
  In my opinion it sounds like you need something quite bespoke, so I'd advise option 1, and hire a php developer that has adequate front end design skills (Elance.com) to customise it to what you require.
