Can you "squeeze" me tonight and still respect yourself tomorrow morning?

Marketing/sales is an exciting challenge for many of us.
  • Would you say you actually Love marketing, or are you just here for the money? (or the hope of making money)
Can you honestly say you respect, and enjoy the company of, high-pressure "pushy" sales pros? (i.e. off-line and / or online)

This is important, so please allow me to repeat:
  • Can you honestly say you respect, and enjoy the company of, high-pressure "pushy" sales pros?
  • Remember, "If you don't try to close at least 5 times, you haven't done your job!!" :p
Marketing & sales is exciting and sometimes really fun.
What are your honest thoughts about the IM industry standards of conduct, Spam, ethics, tactics, etc?

...or to put it another way...
Can you "squeeze" me tonight and still respect yourself tomorrow morning?

I don't see the connection between enjoying marketing and liking high-pressure sales-people.

First of all, marketing != sales.
There are similarities and I guess most IM'ers are also Internet sales-people, but the two are still not the same thing.

Secondly, high-pressure selling is just one (IMO very lame) way of selling.
I'm glad to say that I've never done any high-pressure selling and neither will I have to, to maintain and grow a very good income.

    But, to answer your questions:
    1. I love marketing, I love marketing psychology and I love teaching. I also like money, but the thrill of money gets old, while the thrill of testing new things, marketing wise and the thrill of learning about your student's success doesn't (for me, at least).
    2. No, I don't like high-pressure sales-people. And if we encounter each other, they don't like me, either.

You're asking two totally different questions.

Coming out of an engineering background, where I spent a lot of time supporting the marketing guys and the field sales reps, I got into marketing for the money. I grew to really enjoy the art and science of marketing.

As for the second part of your question, it sounds like you define 'marketer' as pushy, high-pressure "closer" types salesmen. You also seem to equate marketing with spammers and scammers. If so, why are you here?

I don't willingly spend my time with assholes of any occupation. I don't socialize with pushy salesmen and I don't like fishing with that idiot who thinks that it doesn't matter what he does as long as he catches fish.

    There you go...

Two questions answered for the price of one.

  • Sales and marketing are separate functions, each entailing unique activities that set it apart from the other.
