Domain expiring soon and I want it

I tried to register my name as a domain and the .com is taken. I did a WHOIS lookup and see it's expiring in a few days. Should I contact the owner and tell him/her I want it? What should I do to get the domain?

Thanks,
C

You can try to contact the owner but that might make him extent
    it for one more year.

My opinion is that you use one of the good backorder systems out there.

Godaddy has a pretty good one!
    Snapnames.com is good
    pool.com is good
    moniker.com is also good

If you really want this domain use all of these services and backorder
the same domain... That's should get you the domain.

I would use the back order system too. If you contact the owner, they are probably going to renew it knowing that the domain is wanted.

Like others said, don't contact the owner. Use a backorder from their registrar and always check the status when it expire because there is another process before you get it.

I would agree with that too (using the backorder services).

Can be a bumpy ride though.
