Question about PLR Rights

Hi everybody,

I hope the New Year is going well for all of you so far!

I have never used any PLR products before and know very little about the whole thing. However, I have a large bunch of unused articles I wrote sitting around on my computer that I have decided to put together into a PLR package.

I have poked around on the forums and around the internet to try to understand how the rights work, but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information. Even with the PLR WSO's I see for sale, some claim "unrestricted rights" but then say that you are not allowed to resell the content as a PLR package yourself. Is that consistent with how these rights work?

Basically, if I wanted to give full rights except for the right to resell it as a PLR product/WSO would that be considered unrestricted?

I'm sorry if this has been answered before or if it's a n00bish question, but I can't seem to find any straightforward information about how this works. I've managed to get confused about something that seems like it should be pretty clear!

Thanks for the help!

    Hey,

Depends on what your PLR rights sheet says which should have come with those PLR Articles you got.

Usually you buy the PLR product, modify it and do as you please.

Another thing you could do is include it not sell it but include it as a bonus.

It does get very confusing as some have different rights yet still get called PLR.

    Cheers

"Unrestricted" is typically understood to mean that the buyer can do whatever they want with it. "Restricted" means nothing without an accompanying list detailing exactly what is and isn't allowed. Does that make sense?

I understand that, and that's what I went into the whole thing assuming would be the case. I just got pretty caught up because a lot of descriptions of PLR rights didn't seem clear or consistent, especially in the WSO section. It seemed like basic dictionary definitions of words stopped meaning anything when it comes to this!

Hmm.... I understood everything you wrote... yet it make no sense at all...

Maybe some examples would help us figure out what you mean. Bottom line though... find an example of a rights package that you like and use it.

Haha... I've been running in circles a bit with this issue so I'm sorry if I don't seem quite clear.

I think it's clear enough for me now, but thanks for helping out. I was confused because some people didn't seem to be using "restricted" vs "unrestricted" according to their usual definitions. Since I know very little about PLR, I thought maybe there were some "secret definitions" for this stuff!

There really isn't any consistency, as each creator has their own specifics for their licenses.

The main thing that makes it PLR is that it can be edited and your own name put as author. Everything else is up to you. The problem with completely unrestricted PLR is that your first buyer can then compete with you directly. As a buyer, I like unrestricted rights but as a seller, that dilutes the value very, very quickly.

You'll have to decide what works for you in the end.

Thank you. This is exactly the answer I needed.

I was beginning to think that people describing PLR rights had made up their own definitions for things...

My problem was trying to find consistency in all of it, but like you said I'll just have to find what works for me.

No. You can't say "unrestricted" and then restrict it. That's called not understanding how words mean things.

Lay out the rights people get to your PLR package explicitly, so they don't have to ask what they can and can't do. It's your package, so you're in charge of what rights they get. If you don't want them to have a certain right, tell them they can't have it.

That's how it seemed to me! Thanks for responding - I think I've been sorted out now.

If you put an original product together yourself and sell it as PLR, then you get to decide what, exactly, your customers are allowed to do with your product.
If you are making use of a plr product that you've somehow acquired, (personalizing it and turning it into your own product) then you stay exactly within the parameters of the licence that came with that product.
Purchasing a plr product... don't do it unless you are able to view the licence. And don't do it unless there's a satisfaction guarantee.
