The Most Viral Site Ever: What Does It Need?

I would assume it would need to have an affiliate program and some sort of social invite and book marker. Maybe embeddable videos and widgets that users can promote on their own blogs or social sites. Of course email capture and communication as people still forward emails.

What else would you recommend?

      Ahh yes!

But how is it more viral than word of mouth. Are you speaking strictly off search engine traffic?

    First thought?

A compelling reason for people to share it with everyone they know.

It's the execution of that idea that's the tricky part.

    All the best,

Aye, agree with the above. You need something that is better than anything else out there, something that will drive people to visit it and something that will spread rapidly through word of mouth (or posts on blogs etc... easiest way to promote a site).

Who is the site built for? Younger people? Older people? Men? Women? Everyone?

Cater to the specific likes of the niche. Create something that entertains or educates or both.

Of course, that's much easier said than done. But crazy videos or a crazy news story often works pretty well.

OK, I am actually working on a Viral System, which I am pretty excited about... Even though it's not launched yet, Here's the basics behind the system:

#1 Have something compelling to offer (can be just about anything) divided into sections.

#2 Give each user a UNIQUE Referral ID, and offer them the hidden content for FREE for XX many hits they send you.

If you want to see exactly how I'm setting this up, you can take a sneak peek preview here (still under construction)

What do you think? Will I go viral with this technique?

I like the idea! Especially the fact that you also offer it all for a fee as well - this creates value in my eyes. Why have you not considered to offer each for a seperate fee?

So someone would then send the link via email to their users?

How do you retain your users (building your list)?
