adult sites: how do they get so much traffic

I was over on Digital point yesterday and was having a look at their adult stuff for sale section
Alot of people where selling ad space on their sites and like claiming traffic of 20,000 45,000 and even 110,000 a day
These arent even the big players in the market

How do they get so much traffic
I know porn is a big industry but there is a lot of competition (more than Im and weightloss)

Really how

Exactly. Many of the adult webmasters have since been run out of business or jumped over to mainstream. And traffic is much cheaper in adult and takes much more to get sales IMHO. I just looked.. you can actually buy general adult traffic from one of the most reputable adult traffic brokers for .009 a click and that's 30 day unique.

I also understand the traffic is recycled a lot... as in
you don't find quite what you are looking for on one
site so you are shown links to other sites... although
those sites often belong to the same entity.

I imagine that if the traffic doesn't convert by making
a purchase, it is also sold off.

I'm not in the industry, but I use some of the same
principles (suggesting other sites to exiting traffic) in
some niches outside the adult industry.

question: how do porn sites get so much traffic?
    answer: because they're porn sites

that's not actually true. porn is saturated to hell. people pay for traffic or they lie (especially on digital point!!)

I would bet that it's really not difficult to get scores of traffic, even without paying for it.

I was looking at the stats of one of my websites yesterday. It's not a porn site and I don't have any porn on it. What I do have, however, is a keyword that's also a keyword that might be used by people looking for porn.

For this keyword, I'm getting about 30 visits a day. True, that's a small number. But, on Google, I am not even ranked in the first 10 pages of search results. So, people have to be doing a lot of searching to dig down to where ever it is I rank just to visit my site (and be disappointed there is no porn).

So, I can imagine that if I ranked higher, I would be getting even more traffic. And, I would bet that if I actually had a porn site, I would rank higher.

From search engines alone, I bet you could get a ton of traffic for porn. Throw in some paid ads and ad exchanges with other porn sites, and I don't doubt that it's possible to get tens of thousands of visitors per day.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

It still leads to an amusing page. Just not porn.

Whilst this market may seem saturated it is and always will be a huge market, sex sells and the commissions that some of these adult sites are $30-$120 per sign up, in some cases even $15-$20 for a CPA e.g. the person signs up to an adult dating site for a free membership.

Big money as an affiliate if you are open minded.

    1) From just a DP listing, you really have no idea what quality traffic they have.
    2) I think that industry has consolidated/matured. Now just because surfing porn is an old past time, the average surfer is more sophisticated. Thus, they visit for free stuff, but maybe not much more.
    3) There are sites that get massive traffic, yet don't make that much. REcipe sites or quotation sites are an example.

I think the porn industry was kind of idolized by the IM community for awhile, but that has kinda faded. Sure, they were doing certain things (video, continuity, etc) long before IM"ers. But that industry is so much different than any others...it was tailor MADE for the internet...so in essence, the demand was there and they just needed to innovate. In other industries, the demand comes along much slower.

I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but right when IM was at it's peak at idolizing porn webmasters, a guy named "Woody Maxim" launched a site with big buzz. A former webmaster who was going to reveal his tricks. Turned out, he could make it in adult, but not in IM. He basically said "Well, this works in adult...but only when other webmasters are on board..and in other industries, they aren't on board".

The answer... because of the sheer size of the market.

What may seem like a lot of traffic in another market is nothing compared to a small amount of traffic in a mass market like this one.

In other words... The traffic is there because the traffic is there.

    Bingo!

I will assume that most of us have visited an adult site.

You know the drill with the TGP's, you click on a pic and BAM! you're on another TGP, you click on another pic and BAM! you're on another TGP... sometimes you hit the lottery and actually get through to whatever it was you wanted to see but most of the time your being jerked left and right from one site to the next until you get so fed up you whip out your credit card and signup for a site so you can finally get some satisfaction.

It's old school but there are plenty of those sites still around. Once you're in the loop you'll get plenty of traffic.

That's one trick of many. Buying traffic is also dirt cheap for generic but can get a little more spendy if you want niche specific traffic from countries who know what credit cards are.

But, it's all about tube sites now. Thousands of videos you can watch for free! If you run a decent tube you're going to get a lot of repeat traffic since you're offering a one stop buffet of free deviant activities to watch and enjoy. Cross promote with dating, cams and weener stretchers and you'll do OK.

People like sex. No if's, and's or butt's about it. If they aren't getting it, they like to watch.

Too bad the sales ratios stink.

Run traffic through a squeeze page enticing people to click(non adult page) to your adsense page. .001-.009 per click = some nice profits.
