As your online presence increases, you will come in contact with all types of individuals. Timothy Ferriss, of 4-Hour-Workweek fame, gives some practical ideas about handling different types of people and situations.

In the blog post and video:
Tim gives his rules for comments on his blog.
Shares how he deals with the media and giving interviews.
Gives guidelines for dealing with negative situations in general.

Tim elaborates on his 7 Great Principles for Dealing with Haters:

1. It doesn't matter how many people don't get it. What matters is how many people do
2. 10% of people will find a way to take anything personally. Expect it.
3. "Trying to get everyone to like you is a sign of mediocrity." (Colin Powell)
4. "If you are really effective at what you do, 95% of the things said about you will be negative." (Scott Boras)
5. "If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid." (Epictetus)
6. "Living well is the best revenge." (George Herbert)
7. Keep calm and carry on.

The video concludes with a good Q&A session.

    Great post Joe,

What marketer said something along the lines of "If you're not pissing people off, you're not marketing hard enough"?... Dan Kennedy?

With the internet being so social and easy to slander one another publicly with little recourse, it is bound to happen to everyone as their success grows.

I have found a rip off report on myself in the past saying a person sent me 8 emails and I still had yet to get back to them...

thing was, all 8 emails where sent within 2 minutes apart and all within a 40 minute time span - All on a Sunday. The rip off report had been posted two hours after I had received their first email.

The sad thing is that when someone loves your product, they tell 3 people... When someone hates your product, they tell 8.

lol I'm not gangster at all but rapper 50 Cent says it best: "go 'head, switch the style up / And if they hate then let 'em hate and watch the money pile up" hahahaha!!

I would fire them as a customer. Refund, then ban them.

When they throw a fit, tell them you didn't appreciate the rip off report about you and that you don't deal with people who can't handle one day of waiting.

Trouble is, too many people define "hater" as anyone who isn't a raving fan or anyone who says anything negative. That way, it's easy to dismiss even legitimate differences.

"Don't listen to them, they're just haters", although many times it's 'haterz'...

I love Tim Ferriss' stuff. I think people that dismiss the 4HWW don't really understand what the purpose of the book is. That is, not necessarily to work 4 hours per week. It's to free up time, live more.

So, I'm sure he gets his fair share of criticism and has a system for dealing with it. But at the same time, I'm pretty sure he's pretty arrogant (you probably have to be) so it comes a little easier to him. For others, taking on critics is tough.
