Amazon Book Marketing

Hi guys!

Do we have anyone who knows about how to best market books on Amazon? I am especially looking for information on how to rank well inside of Amazon and how to use their internal system to the best advantage and give books the highest exposure.

I´d like to assist an author in marketing her books better and improve the sales rate for the books she has on Amazon.

I am aware of the possibility to set up external sites using keyword phrases and point visitors towards amazon pages.

But how much effect does tagging in Amazon have for example? Is it useful to post on their community forum?

Any insights would be much appreciated!!

Interesting. You're looking to "manipulate" Amazon's own recommendations/suggestions engine to better and more prominently position your client's books to potentially interested buyers?

I really have no idea how you could do that. I think, overall, Amazon's system works off sales-volume, and the various combinations of items included in customers' past orders, more than anything else, to make recommendations? I would suspect, too, that anything that can be manipulated (with the use of tags, and what not) might be somewhat difficult unless you can set up a huge number of separate accounts? And (pure speculation, of course) then they may be able to spot such activity and reverse it?

Good luck in getting the answer(s) you're looking for, and in your endeavour, anyway, although I suspect few people here will know much about (nor have experience with) this.

    Hi there...

The first thing, I would propose is that you get your clients book turned into Kindle version.

Please find below extract from Wikipedia about Amazon:

In July 2010 Amazon announced that e-book sales for its Kindle reader outnumbered sales of hardcover books for the first time ever during the second quarter of 2010. Amazon claims that during that period sold 143 e-books for every 100 hardcover books, including hardcovers for which there is no digital edition; and during late June and early July sales rose to 180 digital books for every 100 hardcovers

By converting them into Kindle version, you can choose 7 keywords for each title when uploading it therefore giving increased opportunity for exposure of book.

In addition, by getting 5 star reviews of the book will also help to get increased exposure.

    Finally, use Amazon's listmania strategy.

    Hope this helps.

Tagging is excellent for giving a book more exposure. You need to tag with as many keywords as you can.

Remember, if the book isn't in the top 100 books the only way a buyer is going to find the book is by conducting a search - so tagging is a must.

Becuase you can filter the results by relevance, keyword optimising the title, description and everything else will help.

However, if the buyer has filtered the results by best-seller, Amazon will only display books in order of sales rank - and that's a different story.

Exactly! And from what I have seen this filter option seems to be the default.

Do you happen to know if people even scroll and digg through the categories in order to find a book? Or do they already come in with a title in mind they plan to buy and more or less accidentally skim through categories?

Thanks so much for your input!

        No worries! :-)

Some people must dig deeper into the results. I say this becuase I've got a few Kindle books on the market - not bestsellers- and I've made sales from page 2/3.

I guess it depends what's on the first page. If the person thinks the quality of books on page 1 aren't up to scratch they'll see what else is on offer - but that's just an assumption.

You can find an entire section of my book on how to market books via Amazon.com.

Many authors have conducted Amazon Bestseller Campaigns designed to get their book ranked higher on Amazon. 9 out of 10 fail because they don't do it right. The key is having a lot of partners helping you to promote your book on a specific day.

      Hi John,

visited your site. Very interesting! What I couldn´t find though is if your offer includes books that are already on Amazon.

Could you point me to where on your site I can read up on it?

      Thanks!
