The top marketing trends of 2011, my outlook

I think that the top trends in 2011 are three things and three things combined:

Social apps, which are already huge, but right now, really only a few are ahead of the curve. You can essentially build virally a "list" of people or users and sell offers while they use your app. It takes a little tech know how, but I've seen some crazy one's with 10 million plus users that are just poking buddies, holiday cards, quizzes and silly things like that go to millions of users in literally a week. How long does it take to get 1 million visits to your seo site? Or if you have a site that does well already, you can just iframe it or integrate it easy. Also, incentivized sharing/liking to build lists and such = huge. People may not read your emails all the time, or go to your site that often, but they probably check their facebook often...you have another medium to be in front of them.

Mobile advertising and apps are also going to grow. Mobile is growing more and more and more. The great thing about mobile is the user always has their phone on them. We did a promotion lately, a test promotion that basically was a piqued interest text message that drove them to an opt in page. Or think about mobile apps for your products or sites to keep the users involved. Once again, you can be in front of them more often (as long as your products/sites are good and don't piss people off).

International is growing, some things that worked in the US 2-5 years ago now work in asia, south america, smaller european countries.

These take some work and effort to get in to, but if you are doing them in 2011, you'll be ahead of the trend by a lot!

    Very interesting outlook.

I totally agree with you on the mobile advertising and apps.

Yes mobile is growing and growing. Getting to know how to advertise on that platform is a key skill for 2011. It is easy to do but you get such a rush of traffic that a $50 spend can go in seconds and if you are not setup properly you are just donating money to the ad companies.

I tried mobile monopoly for quite some time with no success, I followed the instructions sending traffic to a number of different squeeze pages, tested numerous demographics / carriers / times etc.
Result.. 1000s of clicks, 100s of dollars, Zero conversions.
I bought Dave Guindons Mobile Success Blueprint which is packed out with information and videos on 2 methods, building a list and mobile to CPA.
Result...breaking even with the CPA method.
Daves is a great course but...
Bottom line is that I still feel as if I am not in possession of all of the information needed to make a profit. If this were PPC I could delete the losing keywords and be good to go but with this...I am not sure!

I can definitely see mobile growing like crazy in the near future. As much as I despise cell phones (no, I still don't own one)... most people carry one & use them religiously daily. Even more so for the younger generation. I bet they use them more than computers. They are the new up & coming buyers with credit cards (& e-banking) on hand, ready to buy.

I haven't tried my hand in that arena yet... but it's gonna be inevitable for all of us at some point.
