Technical Product Creation

Aside from my Amazon affiliate activities, I've been working on my own informational product for a while now and I have been doing it in fits and starts. The problem is that it might be considered a fairly technical info product. It is roughly related to computer/information security, a field in which I work every day. One week I feel that it is worth doing, and it truly is something that I enjoy writing about and honestly have a passion for, the next I feel that this might be too much of a technical topic. As such I worry that when I release it I might spend every following waking moment writing emails and taking skype calls to support the users who have bought the product.

I am essentially torn between the responsibility which comes with supporting this product and the desire to get the information out there because I truly do feel that the product has a great amount of value, but I don't have the time or the financial resources to bring on a staff should this product really take off.

Has anyone else produced a tech/computer-centric info product and been able to support it well enough that you do not receive a great deal of refund requests?

You can create an information product that is extremely technical.

You only have to tell so in your sales letter.

There are many extremely specialized technical information products.

I'm sure that I read about a guy (perhaps on this forum) who made a living by selling info products for people in the natural gas drilling and storage industries. That's technical and fairly narrow.

As for the e-mails and Skype calls, how sure can you be sure that your buyers will be inundating you with support requests? Can you not make your product so comprehensive that it covers the most probable questions?

Alternatively, if the subject that you're dealing with means that customer support calls are inevitable, then I think you have an obvious opportunity to offer these customers a 'pay-every-month' subscription support service.
